2016 Social Entrepreneurship Competition teams Team Name: Lythouse Labs Competition class: Undergraduate Topic: Developing a diabetes management mobile app Description: Lythouse Labs is developing a mobile application designed to help diabetes patients manage their disease. Over 29 million Americans suffer from diabetes which is costly, associated with painful symptoms and impacts quality of life. As a Type II diabetic and computer science student at University of North Carolina Wilmington I am working with my interdisciplinary team to help others overcome their obstacles to live healthier lives. Lythouse Labs will incorporate theories around behavior change to inform the development of the mobile applications functions so that patients can comfortably receive education, feedback, and monitoring support for their disease. With that in mind, the app will be designed not only for an instant report-and redress capability but also for confidentiality, which often is an issue when it’s come to reporting criminal acts. Further, the UNCW could be used as a pilot site to run the app which could later be scaled to cover local campuses in and around Wilmington.
