C++ / NetBeans FAQs
Question: How do I show line numbers in the NetBeans editor windows / area?
Answer: Right click (two finger click on a OSX laptop) on the vertical solid gray bar at the left of the editor window / area and select Show Line Numbers.
Question: How do I turn off that @#$%^&*! comment spell checker in the NetBeans editor?
Answer: Go to Tools, Options, Miscellaneous, select the Spellchecker tab, uncheck C/C++/Fortran Comments and select OK.
Question: In NetBeans, I get an error message stating that I don't have a build host. What does this mean?
Answer: Most likely, it means that NetBeans cannot find your Gnu C++ compiler. This usually happens because of one of two things. First, you may not have a Gnu C++ compiler installed. Second, you installed and opened NetBeans before you installed the Gnu C++ compiler. 1. First, make sure that you have a compiler installed. On OSX or Linux, open a terminal and type “g++” (without the quotes). On Windows, double click on the Cygwin Terminal icon and, in the terminal, type “g+
+” (without the quotes). If you see the message “not input files”, the Gnu C++ compiler is installed and you can move to step 2. If you do not see the message “no input files”, it means that you have not installed the Gnu C++ compiler. Refer to the instructions for your operating system at http://fidelio.cacs.louisiana.edu/ under the “Software: Gnu C++ and NetBeans” section. (Windows users note that the step most often omitted is “In the Select Packages window, left click on “All @ Default” until it reads “All @ Install”,
2. then select Next. (Installation will begin. Go get a snack.”.) 3. Once you are sure that you do have a Gnu C++ compiler installed, uninstall NetBeans and reinstall it. To uninstall NetBeans In Windows 7, this is Start button, Control Panel, small icons, Programs and Features, right click on NetBeans and select to remove. To uninstall NetBeans in Linux, this is “cd /path­to­netbeans­
folder/”, then “./uninstall.sh”. To uninstall NetBeans in OSX, shut down the software, then drag the program folders or files (usually in /Applications/NetBeans/) to the Trash. Once NetBeans in uninstalled, reinstall it.
