How can you create an environment to assists you
in nurturing your intern(s)?

Problems in the internship? There are several options!
Talk with the student, your faculty liaison, or field faculty admin
Field faculty are here to support you!
Students are encouraged to talk with their field instructors first when there
are concerns and not to abruptly “quit” the internship
Meetings with field faculty can be arranged and a learning plan can be
developed

Requirements are 1 hour each week
What is supervision and why is it so important?
What does successful supervision look like to you?
What are your expectations for supervision?
Some things to think about:
Does the student need to have an agenda?
Does the student need to fill a supervision form to
document?
Learning Contract
What is the purpose of the Learning Contract?
What is the field instructor’s role in helping the
student design the learning contact?
How does the field instructor use the learning
contract as a tool of evaluation?
Student and Field Instructor both rate the student on
their progress in meeting the learning tasks
Evaluation
Students are evaluated mid-semester and at the end of the
semester
Mid-semester Evaluation: students and faculty will receive a midsemester evaluation form that they fill out together and submit
back to the faculty liaison
http://www.uncw.edu/swk/MSWField.html
End of semester Evaluation: the faculty liaison will do a site visit
towards the end of the semester
The LC is used to evaluate students’ progress in field
Site visits: late November-early December
Need to be completed before grades are due in December
Semester ends December 11th and grades are due on the 14th
