Talk with the student, your faculty liaison, or field faculty admin Field faculty are here to support you! Students are encouraged to talk with their field instructors first when there are concerns and not to abruptly “quit” the internship Meetings with field faculty can be arranged and a learning plan can be developed Agency Orientation Agency Orientation What is everyone doing to orient students to the agency? Shadowing vs. “jumping in” and seeing clients Time sheets and Schedules Hours and Schedule Part Time MSW: 180 each semester (spread out over 5 semesters)-total of 900 hours Averages out to be 12-16 hours a week Please note the part time students have TWO placements 1st Placement: Fall and Spring of the MSW students’ second year Laying foundation of social work 2nd Placement: Summer, Fall, and Spring of their second year Focus is clinical Time sheets and Schedules BSW Hours and Schedule: 225 hours each semester Total of 450 hours for both fall and spring Averages out to 16-20 hours a week 9 Time sheets and Schedules Make sure to develop a schedule with intern BSW Students: MWF designated intern days MSW Part Time Students: flexible with work schedule Timesheet: sign off on a weekly basis so there is no confusion 2015 Timesheet for SWK 496 510 511.doc http://www.uncw.edu/swk/FieldEducation.html 10 Supervision Requirements are 1 hour each week What is supervision and why is it so important? What does successful supervision look like to you? What are your expectations for supervision? Some things to think about: Does the student need to have an agenda? Does the student need to fill a supervision form to document? Learning Contract What is the purpose of the Learning Contract? What is the field instructor’s role in helping the student design the learning contact? How does the field instructor use the learning contract as a tool of evaluation? Student and Field Instructor both rate the student on their progress in meeting the learning tasks Evaluation Students are evaluated mid-semester and at the end of the semester Mid-semester Evaluation: students and faculty will receive a midsemester evaluation form that they fill out together and submit back to the faculty liaison http://www.uncw.edu/swk/MSWField.html End of semester Evaluation: the faculty liaison will do a site visit towards the end of the semester The LC is used to evaluate students’ progress in field Site visits: late November-early December Need to be completed before grades are due in December Semester ends December 11th and grades are due on the 14th How is the final grade assigned?
