Summary of Findings
All SON faculty currently teaching in the PreLicensure &
RN-BS programs have met the NC BON requirements for
nurse educators and are teaching in content areas reflective
of their clinical expertise with the exception of faculty that
were hired recently hired – they have 3 years to meet the
nursing education NCBON requirement (2 faculty need to
meet this requirement by Aug 2015)
Faculty development and support is promoted through on
campus CTE programs, and ITSD & SON workshops. 112
professional development activities related to teaching were
reported by all faculty in 2012-2013.
Tenure track faculty are given a 3-credit hour workload
reduction to develop and enhance a program of scholarship
that will move them toward the goal of tenure. 1 faculty
was awarded tenure effective Fall 2013;1 faculty
reappointed

Summary of Findings
Examples of service learning activities: Clinical experience
at Coastal Therapeutic Riding, and numerous community
health fairs/screening programs. Each major nursing
clinical course has a direct applied learning component
related to the clinical experiences in a variety of clinical
agencies. NSG 403 has a 120 hour clinical capstone in each
student works directly with a nurse preceptor in the clinical
setting. NSG 405 has been approved as an applied learning
experience for University Studies and NSG 403 has been
approved as a capstone course for University Studies.
RN BS Program – Faculty are revising the service learning
activities in NSG 405 Community Health Nursing and
