ETEAL Supported Initiatives Assessment Requirements 2014-2015 Congratulations on the award for your applied learning experience! For all ETEAL programs, we need to collect evidence of the impact of the experience in order to assess the overall impact of the QEP. Here is the information you need to prepare for the assessment requirements. Notification of Assessment – Instructors are required to notify their students of the ETEAL Assessment component of their applied learning experience. This can be done either by including an official notification paragraph in your syllabus or by having students complete a notification form. Student Critical Reflections – All students are required to submit a critical reflection. The reflection prompts are designed by the course instructor. The instructor should keep in mind the ETEAL Student Learning Outcomes and the Critical Reflection Rubric when making the assignment. The work can be collected electronically or on paper, at the instructor’s preference. If we collect paper copies, we will make arrangements to collect, make copies and return them BEFORE you score them. Students’ performances on all assessments are improved and more reliable when they have a stake in the outcome, for instance, if the assessment is part of their grade. Instructor Critical Reflections – All ETEAL Supported Initiative grant recipients are required to submit their own critical reflection. Prompts are provided to get you started, and you are invited to go beyond the prompts to reflect on any part of the experience. Student End-of-Experience Survey – Each student is required to respond to the end-of-experience survey. This 5-question survey is designed to collect information about other applied experiences they may have participated in. Surveys requests will be emailed to each student. Credit for completing will help response rate. Instructor End-of-Experience Survey – Each grant recipient is required to respond to the end-of-experience survey. This survey is designed to collect information about the experience (type, practices employed) and about your previous experience. Suggested prompts are provided. Other Student Work Products – ETEAL is designed to address three of the UNCW Learning Goals: Critical Thinking, Inquiry, and Thoughtful Expression. While not required for all classes, it is important that we collect other student work that address one or more of these Learning Goals from some of the experiences. Collection will be the same as for the student critical reflections—electronic or on paper. All student survey responses are due on Reading Day and all student work is due to us by the last day of final exams. The instructor reflection and survey are due by January 7, 2014 for fall classes and May 22, 2015 for spring classes. We will be in contact with you during the semester to find out more about your applied learning experiences and the student work you’ll be submitting. If you have any questions, please contact us.
