Program Overview
A study of International Criminal Justice Systems in Europe: Featuring visits
to The International Criminal Court at The Hague and French and Swedish
Trial and Appellate courts. Students will engage in site visits, lectures and
discussions concerning national and international criminal justice issues
and contrasting approaches to criminal justice and crime policy.

Program Activities and Features
Our study begins in Paris with an introduction to French culture and legal
system. In Paris, we will visit the Palace of Justice adn the French Police
Museum. While in Strasbourg, located near the German border, we will
attend hearings at the European Court for Human Rights and visit a WWII
Concentration Camp. From France, we travel to The Netherlands where
we will be introduced to Dutch culture and visit The International Criminal
Court at The Hague. Visits to Stockholm and Gothenburg in Sweden will
round out our study of International Criminal Justice.

Paris, France
A scenic canal tour of Amsterdam only begins to reveal the beauty of this
city, enhanced by such sites as the Van Gogh Museum and World Famous
Keukenhof Gardens. The Hague is the seat of the Dutch Government and the
de facto capital of the United Nations. Students may want to spend their free
time here enjoying the sun and Dutch cuisine under a cabana at Schrevening
Beach Resort or marvel at a life-sized sandcastle. In Paris, students may want
to explore the West Bank, stroll along the Champs-Elysees, or visit Notre Dame
Cathredal. In Sweden, students will have time to visit an amusement park,
observe the changing of The Swedish Guard, or take a boat ride among the
famous archipelagos. Everywhere students will have superb local cuisine from
which to choose and a myriad of opportunities to experience local culture,
handicrafts, art, and architecture.

Financial Aid & Scholarships
Federal and state financial aid may be applied toward
this program. Even if you are normally ineligible
for financial aid, you should submit a financial aid
application (FAFSA). You may find that you are eligible
for additional funding.
UNCW students may also apply for a UNCW
Summer Education Abroad Grant and additional
study abroad scholarships. Grant applications
