JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Licensed Practical Triage Nurse
POSITION INFORMATION: Performs nursing duties such as patient preparation, sample collection, information gathering,
patient follow-up, data collection, and medication administration.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1.
Assessment. Assesses patients’ needs based on patient history, risk factors, patient complaint, need for care, etc.
Classifies the urgency of symptoms. Notifies appropriate personnel in unique situations.
2.
Advisement. Advises patients on whether to make an appointment with their physician, obtain emergency assistance,
etc.
3.
Patient Preparation. Prepares patient for examination by the physician by having charts ready, etc.
4.
Sample Collection. Collects samples from patients including blood, urine, etc. Prepares samples for analysis or
shipment.
5.
Information Gathering. Takes and records various readings such as heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure,
weight, body temperature, etc.
6.
Patient Follow Up. Makes follow up patient appointments, or follows up on patient appointments. Answers routine
questions from patients, family, etc.
7.
Data Collection. Collects all laboratory reports, data, and records.
8.
Medication Administration. Under direction of physician or other medical personnel, administers medication to
patients.
9.
As Needed. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Completion of an accredited practical nursing program
Experience: 12 months experience as a Triage Nurse
Certifications/ Licenses: Certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), and registered as a Licensed Practical Nurse in
the State of Oklahoma
