Paris — The NC Consortium Program ation Abroad — c u d Unive E rsity of Nor th Carolina Wilmington Program Overview The North Carolina Consortium Semester in Paris is a long-standing, highquality academic program that takes full advantage of the opportunities in the City of Light. The program, which generally lasts for one semester but may be extended to a full academic year, is designed for students with second-year college level competency in French. The program is open to all majors. Program Facts Location…………………............………..Paris, France City Population…………........….………...2.2 million Program Type Academics Students accepted into the UNC Wilmington study abroad program with The North Carolina Consortium in Paris program will receive credit toward their degree requirement for most majors. All participants partake in intensive French language (9 credits) in the Cours de Civilisation Française at the Sorbonne as well as Explorations in French (3 credits) at the NC Paris program center, a short walk from the Sorbonne. Additional courses offered at the program center include; Gender & Sexuality in Post-Revolutionary France (fall semester only, 3 credits); Memory & Trauma in France after 1945 (spring semester only, 3 credits); history of French cinema (fall semester only, 3 credits); the history of European cinema (spring semester only, 3 credits); and Contemporary French Politics (both semesters, 3 credits). UNCW students will typically be assigned to homestay families, enriching the immersion experience. Homestay families will provide students with breakfast and two dinners per week. Host families provide unique access to daily life and culture in France, while providing enhanced opportunities for language learning. Student Life With experienced professors, some of which have worked together with the NC Consortium in Paris for nearly 20 years, the program offers frequent excursions, cultural activities and a multitude of opportunities to explore French society. Located in one of the cultural hotspots of the world, the Paris program provides access to world-renowned landmarks, including the Louvre, Notre Dame, the Seine and the Eiffel Tower. The “City of Lights”, and “City of Love”, Paris is yours to explore for a semester or year, while earning credit towards you home school degree. Surrounding Areas Located in the north of France, Paris is an ideal location from which to indulge in all that that Europe has to offer. With Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Spain just train rides away, students will have the opportunity to embrace a multitude of cultures. For those seeking a total immersion in French society and history, Paris offers access to numerous regional attractions including the Loire Castles, the villages of Giverny and Barbazons, as well as the Castle of Versaille where visitors may explore Marie Antoinette’s legendary hamlet. Total cost for the program includes tuition, insurance, lodging, breakfast, two dinners per week with your host family and some excursions. There will be additional costs for international airfare, passport and local transportation. Contact your Office of International Programs for the program fee. Financial Aid & Scholarships Federal and state financial aid may be applied toward this program. Even if you are normally ineligible for financial aid, you should submit a financial aid application (FAFSA). You may find that you are eligible for additional funding. UNCW students may also apply for a UNCW Education Abroad Grant and additional study abroad scholarships.
