Katie Snyder Katie Snyder is currently in her 8th year of teaching high school Social Studies. Snyder received her Bachelor's degree in Sociology and 6-12 Social Studies certification from UNCW and then earned her Master's degree in education with a specialization in Curriculum, Instruction, and Supervision. Snyder, a beginning teacher, is a Promise of Leadership Award Recipient. She is a National Board Certified Teacher and is currently working on her Doctorate in Educational Leadership. For her dissertation, she is evaluating the lead mentoring program that exists in the four traditional high schools in New Hanover County Schools. Snyder’s passion lies in helping new and pre-service teachers. For the past four school years, she has served as the lead mentor at her school in which she oversees the mentoring program for all beginning teachers and their mentors. She has been a partnership teacher and hosted Social Studies interns from UNCW for the past five years. During the Fall semesters, Snyder teaches the Social Studies Methods course at UNCW for students in their pre-internship semester. Through these efforts, Snyder hopes to enhance the quality of teachers in our area. She was recently named the 2016 Southeast Regional Teacher of the Year and is one of nine finalists for the state title. For the next school year, she will be serving the Southeast region in which she hopes to share her ideas and strategies to mentor new and pre-service teachers to ensure they remain in the teaching profession.
