Carrie Barrett

Carrie Barrett has played an important role as a physical education and health teacher of the Belville Elementary School family for the past 10 years. She is a graduate of the University of North

Carolina Wilmington and continues to partner with the university as a

Partnership Teacher. Carrie has facilitated and presented at several PE professional development sessions in her school district and her most recent topic focuses on her passion to share adaptive PE strategies. While at Belville,

Carrie has continued to mentor beginning teachers and has served as the

Beginning Teacher Coordinator for the school. She is active in the community and organizes community fitness nights, fun runs, and coach’s girl’s track and basketball at Leland Middle School.

Carrie’s classroom offers students a unique learning environment in that there are no desks, no chairs, and constant movement is encouraged. Her lessons focus on physical health and wellness topics along with developing positive character traits and critical thinking skills. She takes pride in developing lessons that challenge students physically and mentally. She uses creativity to incorporate core subjects and finds innovative ways to teach students who have a variety of ability levels. Carrie has built an educational environment that appreciates uniqueness and helps her students feel comfortable as they focus on improving their skills instead of comparing themselves to their peers. Carrie facilitates activities that allow students to work together in teams and share ideas to accomplish a task. Don’t be fooled by the loud music, laughter, and enthusiasm from the students. When students are in her gym, they are hard at work!
