The Planet Ocean Seminar Series offers four lectures each academic year, featuring prominent speakers from our own faculty and other leading research institutions, from well-known environmental organizations and from government agencies. Gamble, Ph.D. Associate Professor of Geography and Director, The Laboratory for Applied Climate Research Department of Geography and Geology, University of North Carolina Wilmington D r. Doug Gamble is an Associate Professor of Geography in the Department of Geography and Geology at UNC Wilmington (UNCW). He received his BA from Miami University in 1989 and masters and doctorate degrees from the University of Georgia in 1997. His research and teaching interests include applied climatology, coastal and island environments of the Caribbean and southeastern United States as well as hydrologic hazards. As the current director of the Laboratory for Applied Climate Research (LACR), Dr. Gamble oversees a state-of-the-art facility that includes meteorological field equipment and an extensive data library. The primary goal of LACR is to give students the unique opportunity to conduct climatology field research alongside university faculty outside of the traditional classroom environment. The seminar is held in the Hodder Hall of Mentors, the main auditorium at the UNCW Center for Marine Science, 5600 Marvin K. Moss Lane. The seminar will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. Light hors d’oeuvres will follow. The Future of the Carolina Coast O ver the past 20 years he has completed field research in North Carolina, Alabama, Guam, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, and Jamaica. His research has been supported by NSF and NOAA, and published in the journals International Journal of Climatology, Climate Research, Journal of Applied and Theoretical Climatology, Physical Geography, and the Annals of the Association of American Geographers. Dr. Gamble was a recipient of the 2010 UNCW Chancellors Excellence in Teaching Award.
