University of Saskatchewan Student Travel Award Please fill out this form and submit it with all required documents to the International Student and Study Abroad Centre (Room 80, Lower Place Riel) at least one month prior to the start date of the conference or international activity. ¡¡ ¡¡ ¡¡ ¡¡ Group applications must be submitted by the group leader. Students who have been included in a group application are not eligible to submit an individual application. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Funding will be provided on first-come first-served basis to eligible applicants. Activities will not be funded retroactively. Applicants traveling abroad are required to complete the university’s International Travel Registry before their application will be considered for funding. If you are traveling abroad, you will be notified by email once you have access to the registry. ¡¡ If, subsequent to the granting of support, the student is unable to participate, the funds must be returned. ¡¡ It is not guaranteed that you will receive funding prior to travel. Students can receive a Student Travel Award once every 12 months. ¡¡ Eligible students must be registered in the term they are traveling in. Conferences and Workshops Study Abroad Individual/Group Individual/Group Criteria: Submit a group application if two or more students are presenting together at a conference. Undergraduate students must be enroled full-time and have completed at least one semester of their program. They will either: ¡¡ Present at a conference ¡¡ Participate in a competition ¡¡ Attend a conference Preference will be given according to the above priorities and to students in their final year of study. Graduate students must be registered in the term they are travelling in and will: ¡¡ Present at a conference ¡¡ Participate in a competition Preference will be given to: ¡¡ Graduate students and senior undergraduate students who have not previously received an award. Non-Academic/Extra-curricular Individual/Group Criteria: ¡¡ Students must be enroled full-time at the time of application. ¡¡ Students have been accepted to a U of S study abroad program/course and will receive a minimum of 3 Credit Units. ¡¡ Individuals applicants must demonstrate financial need and submit the online Financial Need Calculator as part of their application. Please go to sesd.usask.ca/need/continuing to complete the calculator. ¡¡ A group application is required if there are three or more participants in a program. ¡¡ The department will be responsible for distributing group award funds to the participants. Criteria: ¡¡ Applicants must be U of S students ¡¡ Groups must be affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan Preference will be given to: ¡¡ Travel outside Canada Preference will be given to: ¡¡ Undergraduate students in non-professional programs. ¡¡ Students applying to programs that incorporate language study. ¡¡ Students applying to programs longer than one semester. ¡¡ Students applying to programs that explore indigenous topics or engage aboriginal students. Abstract acceptance confirmation Required documents: Individual applications: Proof of acceptance to a U of S Study Abroad program/course Required documents: Proof of acceptance to an event/program/ competition Value: ¡¡ Canadian conference: Maximum of $350 ¡¡ International conference: Maximum of $550 ¡¡ Group applications: Maximum of $1,000 Group applications: Demonstrate that the program/activity has been approved by the College Value: ¡¡ $200 per student ¡¡ Maximum of $1,500 per group Value: ¡¡ Less than 1 term: $250 ¡¡ 1 term: $500 ¡¡ 2 terms or more: $1,000 ¡¡ Maximum of $3,000 per group study program Purpose Detailed Budget The purpose of this fund is to provide financial assistance to U of S full-time students who intend to participate in academic and experiential learning activities abroad or in Canada. ¡¡ All applications must include a detailed budget of the proposed activity which includes other sources of funding and total amount of revenue and expenses. ¡¡ Students must demonstrate how they are utilizing revenue sources other than University of Saskatchewan Student Travel Award to cover the cost of a conference, academic competition or other activity. Application Procedures ¡¡ Application forms are available at students.usask.ca/paying/funding.php. Forms can be mailed to or dropped off at the address below. If further information is required, please call 966-4925 or email StudentTravel.Award@usask.ca. ¡¡ Evidence of support from the appropriate academic department (e.g. supporting letter from Supervising Professor or Department Head) must be provided. ¡¡ Grants will be awarded to students who meet the eligibility criteria until Student Travel Award funds have been fully expended. ¡¡ Submission of an application does not guarantee an award will be granted. Eligible Expense ¡¡ Registration or delegate fees to present a poster or oral presentation at academically related events including conferences, competitions and symposiums. ¡¡ Other expenses to academic-related out-of town events (e.g. travel, accommodation, etc.). Notification ¡¡ Notification of an applicant’s award status will be sent by email to his/her U of S email address. ¡¡ Awards will be issued by cheque to a mailing address on PAWS. Students currently employed by the U of S will have the award amount added to their regular paycheque as a bursary. ¡¡ Group awards will be paid to the departmental account provided on the application form. Taxation ¡¡ Tax slips for a particular year will be issued by the institution in February of the following calendar year. Although a tax slip is issued, the travel award may be tax-exempt. Awards are eligible for exemption if paid in connection to the student’s academic program (for which the education tax credit is claimed). ¡¡ Each student’s circumstance may be different.
