SSHRC CURA 2010 REQUIREMENTS
Participants



Applies to all co-applicants and collaborators.
Enter name and email address of each participant who is then sent an invitation.
Upon acceptance, each participant will attach a copy of their CV for submission and
their status will indicate “invitation accepted”.
Partners




May be a private, public or non-profit organization.
Each must submit an electronic letter of confirmation not exceeding one page.
For submission purposes, scan the letters into PDF format in ONE document.
Note that the application will be considered less competitive if the letters appear
formulaic. This was not part of the LOI instructions.
Letters of Confirmation (maximum one page each) must include statements that
 the partner has read the proposal and agrees to their role and level of participation;
 the partner is willing and able to complete activities assigned to it;
 the partner confirms partner’s financial and non-financial contribution(s).
Budget Justification – 4 Pages (Uses the same expense categories as the LOI – pp 7 – 9.)
Funding from other Sources

Participating universities and community organizations are expected to provide
strong support to the CURA.

In the revised criteria, more consideration is given to strength and viability of the
research & its methodologies, researcher track record, and evaluation framework.
The formal application criteria are detailed on pages 10 – 11.

Must contain fuller details than that submitted for the LOI – such as clear research
objectives, relevance, and significance, how it builds on any previous CURA grant
you may have, and methodologies. For details, see page 12.
Detail how our application meets the evaluation criteria.
Communication of Results – 1 Page


Was not a component of the LOI.
Outline your plans for communicating research results, such as dissemination plans
and concrete deliverables; detailed on page 13.
Description of Team – 1 Page

Detail the roles and contributions of the applicant, co-applicants and collaborators.
Partnerships and Alliances – 4 Pages

Detail the conditions under which the partners are participating and why a research
partnership is especially beneficial for this project.
Training (Roles of Students) – 1 Page

Nature of training, mentorship and how students will benefit.
List of References – No page limit
Suggested Assessors


List up to 9 assessors (Canadian or Foreign) whom you suggest SSHRC may consult
to assess your proposal.
They cannot be affiliated with your institution or any member of your research team,
a previous supervisor, a past collaborator or someone who has a personal
relationship with a member of the research team.
Your Research Contributions – 4 Pages (see p. 20 for specific format instructions)

2. Other Research Contributions;
3. Most Significant Career Research Contributions (for Regular Scholars);
4. Career Interruptions and Special Circumstances; and



Explain previous work experience which is relevant to the project subject and how it
will aid the proposed research.
Detailed on page 22.
SO ... we are permitted a total of 20 pages, in addition to letters of confirmation
from partners, a list of references, list of assessors, and CVs & attachments.
