First Semester EXS courses (suggested)
 EXS 216* OR BIO 240**
 EXS 355
 EXS 379 (if Junior status)
 CSC 105
 PED/EXS 350
*EXS 216 (or BIO 240) is a prereq for most EXS
courses (If student is planning on going on to
a pre-professional program BIO 240/241 are
recommended)
**DPT-interested students should take BIO
240/241 rather than EXS 216/217
Note: If EXS 216 (or BIO 240) have already
been taken, consider EXS 217 (or BIO 241), EXS
340, EXS 349, EXS 359, PED 415
**Students do not necessarily have to be an
EXS major to enroll in the EXS courses?
Currently, No. as long as they have the
prerequisite. If a student is not a major, will
not get override for a class
What potential EXS students/advisors need to know…

Essentially a stepping-stone to graduate school (EXS,
Doctorate-PT, OT, PA, etc). All PT programs are now
Doctorate programs that include the Master’s in the
three year program. OT is a Master’s, 2-yr program only.
PA is also a 2-yr program.
EXS is a lab-intensive degree requiring labs in
approximately 5 of the required courses
EXS covers 2 Writing Intensive courses: EXS 359, PED
415, so students will need 1 additional course in this area
(will typically come from an AIL)
EXS covers 3 Information Literacy courses: CSC 105, EXS
359, PED 415. ENG 200/201 also gives them an
additional class in this area
EXS will cover QLR Requirement: EXS 359
Requires 9 hours of “EXS Electives” – see below for
choices. (most of the DPT prereqs that are not included
in the required EXS curriculum, count towards these 9
hours of EXS Electives
Modeling Cluster fits in nicely with this degree (PSY 105,
BIO 201, CHM 101)
Presently, all EXS required courses are offered each
semester (fall and spring) There are some EXS offered
during the summer
EXS 497 Practicum-requires 90 hours at a professional
site (3 credit class taken last semester Senior Year)-They
pick their own place and get it approved by the EXS
faculty-will provide assistance if they need help. Relevant
to what they want to do career wise.
Are there any online courses?-Occasionally, sometimes
in the summer (EXS 359, EXS 340,-SM 2015)
How long is the program? 2-2.5 years
Why a student would not be accepted to EXS…
 Not meeting the admission requirements including 2.7
GPA and the Prerequisites (MAT 111, CHM 101, and BIO
201)
How an EXS student could be removed from the program…?
 C – in a EXS major course-They have to repeat the course
 If a student violates the NASW Code of Ethics, acts
unprofessionally, or plagiarizes
 GPA consistently below 2.500 will prevent students from
taking any 300- and 400-level EXS course, HEA 465, PED
350, and PED 415 courses. These students must submit a
letter of appeal to gain permission to be overridden into
said courses.
