BA (Hons) Heritage Studies – SHE334 1. Objectives This degree programme is designed to provide knowledge and competence in the field of Heritage Studies. It equips students with the skills required for a number of history and heritage-related professions in sectors such as teaching, research, archive, journalism, heritage research and management and museum work. The degree will provide a firm background for postgraduate training in the Heritage industry and allows students to apply academic interdisciplinary skills to a practical workplace experience. 2. Programme Requirements Qualifications Credit in English or alternative qualifications acceptable to University of Mauritius. Students without the formal entrance qualifications set out above will be considered on the basis of relevant work experience. Each case will be considered on its own merits. 4. 5. Year 1: 39 credits Year 2: 75 credits Year 3: 103 credits Assessment Assessment will be carried out on performance in three areas: Programme work, practical work and written examinations each being equivalent to a third of total percentage. Students who fail in any one however will not be able to graduate. Research or internships modules bearing the programme module number (R) or (I) will not be examined. Students on internships will submit portfolios, which includes practical, exercises, assignments, reports etc. Oral history and Memory module will consist of a final Oral History and Memory Project=40%; Discussion, Attendance, and In-Class Projects=60%. 8. Programme organisation Flexible mode As this is a professional Programme dependent on part-time lecturers and the visits of consultants, 4 semesters have been devised for each year and which will accommodate in a flexible manner the time tables of consultants, part time lecturers with the need for onsite lectures, site work, project work for a body of students who may be already in fulltime employment. Classes will not be taught in the traditional 3-hour lecture mode, but will consist of lectures and visits to heritage sites, practical work in museums and libraries, etc. Classes may be online and may also be taught on Sundays. Electives Summer/Winter are intensive modules, which will be run over a period of two months. 9.
