1 MA Migration and Diaspora Studies (2 Years Part-Time) [NEW] 1. Objectives This programme will address various aspects of migration, modes of integration of immigrants of diverse backgrounds and Diaspora studies in the Indian Ocean Region. It will introduce students to the major theoretical and empirical issues in these fields and equip them with a range of specific skillbased research methodologies. The programme will also enrich students’ understanding of the significance of migration and Diaspora debates for Mauritian and neighbouring societies, with reference to economic development, national identity, heritage, social and cultural change and issues in connection with rights, citizenship and nationality. 2. General Entry Requirements Successful completion of an undergraduate degree with at least a Second Class Upper Division or a GPA not less than 2.5 out of 4 or equivalent, from a recognised higher education institution. OR alternative qualifications acceptable to the Mahatma Gandhi Institute/University of Mauritius (MGI/UoM). 3. Programme Requirements At least an Upper Second Class Degree in either Mauritian Studies or any field in the Humanities or Social Science disciplines. 4. Assessment All modules will be taught on a semester basis but will be examined at the end of the academic year. Each module will carry 100 marks with details as follows (unless otherwise specified):Written examination of 3 hours duration (at the end of the academic year) and continuous assessment carrying 30% to 40% of total marks except for modules where other specific provisions are made. Continuous assessment can be based on seminars and/or assignments and should include at least two (2) assignments/tests per module. All modules of 45 hours duration carry 3 credits.
