Professional gardeners and garden educators from across Wisconsin will offer hands-on instruction on a variety of topics, including kid-friendly gardening activities, seed saving, ideas for extending the growing season, and working with school cafeterias to set up composting and food tasting programs. Deepening Your Meditation August 23, 2014 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Join experienced instructors Kathy Mitchell and Corrina Peterson for a restorative day of silent meditation, walking meditation, and Qigong. The day will include time for questions and discussion. Kathy Mitchell, MA, is a Buddhist practitioner and long-term psychotherapist. She blends these two practices to teach strategies that enhance stability, awareness, and compassion. Corrina Peterson has studied and practiced meditation in various traditions for nearly two decades. She integrates her understanding of this practice with training in equine experiential learning to offer spiritual direction and facilitate personal growth. For details on pricing visit www.uwsp.edu/treehaven or call 715-453-4106 Snow Tracking Rare Species with Jim Halfpenny An advanced wildlife tracking workshop December 6-7, 2014 Sat. 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sun. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Learn quality tracking skills in order to understand wildlife tracking and learn about large carnivores. This two-day workshop will cover track and sign identification, understanding footprints and interpreting gait with an emphasis on reading trails to understand animal behavior and ecology. This program is available for college credit and partially satsifies the requirements for being certified as a Volunteer Carnivore Tracker. Dr. James Halfpenny, Ph.D., is president of A Naturalist’s World, an educational adventure company, and a former research associate at the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research at the University of Colorado. He has served as director of the Mountain Research Station and has taught tracking since 1967. He is the author of A Field Guide to Mammal Tracking in North America and Winter: An Ecological Handbook. Halfpenny specializes in finding signs of cougars, lynx, bears, wolverine and other carnivores. Volunteer Tracking - Brush Up!
