Check-In Students will check in and receive their room key, nametag, and Orientation materials. Campus Services Fair Students and families are invited to learn about the many services Winthrop provides its students. ID Cards Students will have the opportunity to have their Winthrop ID cards made or picked up (if you submitted a photo via email). Residence Hall Model Room Open House Students and families are invited to visit the model Residence Hall room located on the first floor of Richardson Hall. LEAP Meeting (Sessions I, II, & III Only) This meeting is required for students admitted through the LEAP Program. Only LEAP students should attend. Eagle STEM Scholars Summer Bridge Program Information Session (Session II Only) This meeting is required for students participating in the Eagle STEM Scholars Summer Bridge Program and their families attending Family Orientation. TRiO Open House This session is for students who received an invitation from TRiO. Students will learn more about the services the program provides and speak with staff and student leaders. Student-Athlete Meeting This meeting is for all incoming student-athletes, recruited and confirmed walk-ons, and their parents. Welcome to Winthrop Students and families are welcomed to campus by President Dan Mahony and Bethany Marlowe, Dean of Students. Making Connections Students will meet their Orientation Leader (OL) and other students in their Orientation group. Freshman Honors Meeting This meeting is for students who have been accepted into the Winthrop University Honors Program. Dinner Tillman Auditorium S.K.I.T.S.: Students Knowing Information To Succeed The Orientation Leaders perform and facilitate lessons with crucial information to a student’s personal growth. Evening Activities Join your OLs and other new students for fun activities including a dance party, rock climbing wall, shooting hoops, volleyball, racquetball, ping-pong, shooting pool, and video games. Spreading Your Wings on Wingspan Students will learn how to navigate Wingspan, your electronic portal. Health and Counseling Services Hear about the services offered in this department, including medical care, mental health counseling, wellness education, victim advocacy and support, testing, and disability support and accommodations. Dean of Students Office When you don’t know where to go or what else to do, the staff in the Dean of Students’ Office can help. Learn more about the services provided by the office. Orientation Group Meetings OLs will discuss important information about course registration. First Class on Deep Learning First Class is designed to simulate a collegiate academic experience and teach the importance of being an engaged learner. Students will have the opportunity to interact with some of Winthrop’s most celebrated faculty members. Advising Students will meet with representatives from their departments to discuss expectations of students in the major, as well as courses they plan to take in the fall semester. Lunch Students interested in participating in a university music ensemble should plan to have lunch with representatives from the Department of Music. Orientation Group Meetings: OLs will go over important Winthrop information and a Common Book Activity. Course Registration and Evaluations with Orientation Group: Students will register for fall 2016 classes and complete Orientation Evaluations. Orientation Faculty Mentor Session: The OFMs will share the Top Tips for Success from Faculty with new students. Bookstore Visit: Learn more about the textbook options available to Winthrop students. Group2Group: Your Orientation group will have the opportunity to connect with other groups through a fun activity. Residence Hall Check-Out Students must remove trash from their rooms and turn in their keys before leaving campus. Lost or unreturned room keys will result in a $65 charge to the student’s account.
