Target
Relevance
Glucagon is a hormone that is secreted by alpha cells in the pancreas. Glucagon antagonizes
insulin by converting glycogen to glucose in the liver and increasing blood sugar levels.
Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP1), Glucagon-like peptide 2 (GLP2), VIP (vasoactive intestinal
peptide) and PACAP (pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide) are in the glucagons
hormone family. GLP1 is a transmitter in the central nervous system that regulates feeding and
drinking behavior. GLP2 stimulates intestinal epithelial growth.

Anti-Glucagon antibody images
Immunohistochemical examination of
monoamine oxidase type B (MAOB)
localization in A cells and B cells of the rat
pancreatic islet. Sections were processed for
a double-labeling immunofluorescence
method in combination of anti-MAOB (Cy3)
with either anti-glucagon ab36232
(fluorescein) or anti-insulin (fluorescein), and
then observed with a confocal laser scanning
microscope. (a,b) MAOB staining (red). (c)
Glucagon staining (green). (d) Insulin staining
Immunocytochemistry/ Immunofluorescence -
(green). (e) Superimposition of the images in
Anti-Glucagon antibody (ab36232)
a and c. (f) Superimposition of the images in
b and d. Note that all of A cells that contain
glucagon are also stained for MAOB (a,c,e),
and all of B cells are also stained for MAOB
(b,d,f). Original magnification x 100. Bar = 10
µm.
