Ex-officio members Present: Associate Provost Brown, S. Ross
The meeting was called to order at 12:15 p.m.
The 10/20/09 minutes were amended and approved.
Communication

The Humanities Subcommittee will be meeting with representatives from
Women and Gender Studies regarding the proposed certificate next Wednesday at
11:00.
Business Items:
Curriculum Follow-up:
 Humanities:
ART 502 and ART 699 were approved. Follow-up information for the graduate
increment on MAR 456 UG is still pending.
Chair Bolton is still waiting for a response from the Honors College Dean related
to the rejection of the UG designation for HC 496 UG and the subsequent
recommendation to remove the UG status from UH 495 UG.

Social Science:
LING 470 was approved. Follow-up information is pending on four proposals.

Science:
The list appended was approved. The Council discussed whether it was
appropriate to create a graduate seminar course for an undergraduate program. It
concurred with the recommendation of the subcommittee to reject CCS 594. It
would be more appropriate for disciplines associated with the minor to offer
graduate seminars and crosslist with CCS. Another alternative would be a 494
UG number. Perhaps guidelines are needed to facilitate interdisciplinary
programs.
Follow-up is pending on CS 478 UG / CS 578, and BIOL 468 UG.

Professional Schools:
The appended list was approved. Follow-up is pending for a few items.
Admissions Proposal
 The proposal from Music to waive the GRE for admission into the graduate
program was approved.

The Professional School Subcommittee is still deliberating on the proposal from
Curriculum and Instruction.
Graduate School Follow-up
 Associate Provost Brown indicated that the Graduate School Deferred Admission
Policy will be revised. Students are not required to apply for re-admission if
deferred within one year so a fee is not appropriate and will be eliminated.

Although a memo was sent by Associate Provost Brown confirming membership
on the MIS Oversight Committee in November of last year, a meeting was never
convened. Associate Provost Brown will contact committee members to assure
they are still willing to serve. He will also ask Professor Kamp to serve as chair.
Professor Hirstein will serve as the Graduate Council liaison.
The meeting was adjourned at 1.05 p.m.
