Allow program change approved 02/2016 to apply to all previous catalogs
Replace the writing requirement reading “3 hrs of WRIT elective from The
Elements of Writing, Rhetoric, Language, and Audience…” with the
following: “3 hours of WRIT elective numbered above 299”.
Allow ENGL 311 when offered as Writing Biography to count in the
“Elements of Writing, Language, and Audience” string, the “Creative
Emphasis” string, or the “Professional Emphasis” string.
Allow ENGL 311 when offered as Writing Biography to count in the
“Elements of Writing, Language, and Audience” string, the “Creative
Writing” string, or the “Writing for Business and Technology” string.
Add ENGE 519 to the string of courses in the creative writing emphasis.
Change wording to say “Students completing the writing minor will earn
18 semester hours and may emphasize either Creative Writing or
Professional Writing. Students in either option must demonstrate
completion of 6 hours from WRIT 300, 350, 351, 500, 501, 502, 510 (when
topic is appropriate), ENGL 530, or ENGL 507. If this requirement is not
counted toward the major, students may use these 6 hours as part of the
required 18 semester hours in the minor.”
Add an end date of the 2013-14 catalog to the petition approved 01/2012
regarding the requirement of 6 hours of HIST coursework.
Accept the following as the Professional Education Sequence, and replace
any hour discrepancies with general electives if needed to ensure minimum
hours for graduation: EDUC 101, 200, 220, 400 (or ENGE 392), 403, 410
(or EDUC 490); EDCO 201,202, 305, 350; ENGE 391 (for all catalog
years) and ENGE 390 (for 2014-15 and 2015-16 catalogs); and READ 345
or 346.
Accept the following as the Professional Education Sequence, and replace

than two from ENGE 519, ENGL317, 325, 501, 504, CSCl 101 and 3 of
CSCl 101A, B, C, or P; or if focused on an appropriate topic, ENGL310,
311, 320, or 321.
Allowed to count an appropriate topics WRIT 510 in the following string of
courses: “Select from WRIT 366, 566, VCOM 261, ARTS 281, 305, 311,
371, BADM 180, 411, CSCl 101 and 3 of CSCl 101A, B, C, or P; MCOM
241, 340, 341, 370, 471, MGMT 355, or MKTG 380.
Allowed to count ENGL 307, the Arthurian Tradition, in the “British
Literature” string of requirements for the degree.
Permitted to count WRIT 367X (Technical Editing) toward the
requirements in their major. LLAN: Count as writing course string of
WRIT 300, 350, 351, 465, 500, 501, or 510 (6 hours). CSST: count in
sequence of electives from ENGL. WRIT: count in the elements of
Writing: Rhetoric, Language, and Audience string.
Allow HIST 550 to count toward the 6 hours in HIST requirement
Permitted to take any CSCI 101 lab course in the Creative Writing and
Writing for Business &The Professions requirement
Permitted to substitute ENGL 530, Grammar in Theory and Practice, for
ENGL 303, Grammar.
Permitted to count WRIT 510.002, The Creative Process in Poetry, Spring
2012, in the string of courses in the major that currently reads “Select at
least two from WRIT 307, 316, 507, 516, 530”
Permitted to complete the foreign language requirement at the 102 level.
No longer have the requirement of 6 hours of HIST as part of the major and
instead replace those 6 hrs with 3 hrs ENGL elective above 499 and 3 hrs

Permitted to substitute WRIT 510 (Global Communication), offered in
Spring 2012, for ENGL 380 (Literature of Science).
Allow ENGL 291X or ENGL 292X Introduction to the English major as a
course counting toward their BA. LLAN track – may count in place of one
class in the “Electives above 299”, but not in the “Electives above ENGL
499”, or may be counted in place of one of the two required HIST courses.
CSST track – may count in place of 1 class in the “Electives from ENGL
above 299, WRIT 300, 307, 316, or 500” string.
WRIT track – may count it in place of one class in either the creative
writing option or the writing for business and technology option.
Allowed to use WRIT 510 to meet the technology requirement for all
English majors when offered as “Cyber rhetoric”
Requested to allow ENGL 200 count as three hours of ENGL elective
credit if taken since Spring 2008.
