Library Search Tips
•
•
Broad search: A broad search brings up the most results,
however you may end up spending lots of time sorting
through the hits that are important and the ones that are
not.
o Try the term Cold War in the library catalog and
databases
Narrow search: Use the specific title of your topic such
as United Nations or Khmer Rouge. This type of search
brings up fewer items for you to look through.
Library Database Vs. Internet Website



The library databases are simply the electronic versions of books,
magazines, journals, and other primary documents (speeches,
photographs) that we purchase for the Coffman students and staff to
use just as they would the hard cover books.
Internet websites are generally free, written and maintained by a
person, company, school, or government.
Coffman library databases are only free to Coffman students and
staff. They aren’t available through a Google search. Our databases
are more reliable than the Internet!
