POSITION: ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF THE WEST CENTER FOR OPERATIONS
(STUDENT LIFE – THE WEST CENTER)

STARTING $33,082 per year; actual salary will be commensurate

AGENCY HIRING RANGE: $40,000-$42,000

Minimum Training and Experience:
Master's degree in Recreation Management, Administration Sport Management, Health and PE or related field required. Two to
three years of experience in recreation facility management preferred. Experience working in a collegiate recreation setting or
college activities/event management highly desired. Experience in fiscal management and a background demonstrating creativity
& flexibility essential. Certification in CPR, First Aid & AED or willingness to obtain certifications required. Certified Pool
Operators license highly desired.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of current practices in the fields of managing recreational facilities, including facility and staff supervision, event
planning and recreation scheduling. Ability to manage multiple activities and events simultaneously; communicate effectively both
verbally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff. Excellent
interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds for event setup.
Major Duties:
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Students/Director of the West Center and Recreational Services, the Associate Director of the
West Center for Operations manages the overall operations of the Lois Rhame West Health, Physical Education and Wellness
Center. Develops and facilitates comprehensive informal recreation programs; hires, trains, supervises and evaluates facility
graduate associate, student supervisors and front desk, weight room, and climbing wall staff; and coordinates, schedules, invoices
and oversees all summer camps and special events. Maintains all equipment in the West Center. Assists with development,
recommendation and coordination of capital improvement projects, permanent equipment purchases, installations and repairs.
Carries out the day-to-day operations of the facility in the absence of the Director. Serves as the space-use coordinator and
maintains the corresponding calendar and works cooperatively with Health and Physical Education, Recreational Services and the
campus community regarding use of space. Assists Director with supervision of West Center and Recreational Services budgets
and revenue accounts and maintains payroll database on student employees. Conducts facility inspections and risk management
assessment. Oversees locker rental and equipment check-out operations. Coordinates daily with Zone Manager on maintenance
issues and with Facilities Management on custodial needs for routine and special events. Participates in special events sponsored
by Recreational Services; represents Student Affairs on campus committees; and provides oversight and problem solving for
special events. Coordinates and tracks AED, CPR, and First Aid training for all staff and student workers and maintains all
certification records. Facilitates trainings for departments within Student Life. Responsible for West Center security including
keys, card access and exterior door alarms. Performs other related duties as required.
