April 10, 2015 Instructors Build One-of-a-Kind Hydronic Boiler Trainer During winter break 2014, College of DuPage HVACR Instructors Bob Clark and Chris Lexow each donated more than 300 hours of their time to construct a state-of-the-art hydronic boiler trainer in the College’s HVACR lab in the Technical Education Center. “We are thrilled to provide students with top-notch hands-on experience provided by this cutting-edge trainer,” Clark said. “This comprehensive machine will enable students to understand every dynamic they might encounter in a professional hydronic system, fulfilling a need by students, a need in the industry and a need in the community.” Read More Former Pre-Architecture Student Helps with Naperville Project Former COD PreArchitecture student Khushboo Sha recently returned to her alma mater as a professional architect, working on plans for the recent renovation of the College’s Naperville Center. As a student, Shah lived in Naperville and took a French language course at the Center as well as several placement tests. This experience served her well while working on renovations to the 20,460 square-foot Naperville Center. After graduating in May 2013, she traveled to China for five weeks to participate in the Solar Decathlon China 2013 competition, which was started by the U.S. and Chinese governments to promote sustainable economic and social development while encouraging the use of renewable energy sources. “Since I started there, I have put my education to work on projects for the General Services Administration, U.S. Department of Agriculture, University of Illinois at UrbanaChampaign, Northwestern University, Argonne National Laboratory, South Dakota State University and the department of Veterans Affairs, in addition to working on this amazing project to renovate the Naperville Regional Center for College of DuPage,” she said. Read More Stephanie Torres to Serve as Rep on ICCB Board College of DuPage student and Naperville resident Stephanie Torres was recently selected to serve as student representative for the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB). Torres, who is currently President of the COD Student Leadership Council, will begin her year-long term of service for the ICCB in June. “It means so much that fellow student leaders from across Illinois elected me to represent every community college student,” Torres said. “This honor also carries an immense amount of added responsibility. I do not take this privilege lightly. Ceramic Artist Yoko Sekino-Bové Demonstration Pittsburg-based ceramic artist Yoko Sekino-Bové recently demonstrated some of her techniques to students and community members during a workshop at College of DuPage. Sekino-Bové spent time demonstrating various hand building and wheel throwing techniques before serving as keynote speaker at the College's annual Adade Wheeler Woman of Distinction Award Ceremony. New Game Animation and Design Degree College of DuPage is offering a new Game Animation and Design degree that will give students the skills to design video and computer games across multiple platforms. Recently approved by the Illinois Community College Board, the associate in applied science degree will provide the knowledge for students to gain entry-level positions as a designer and animator in such fields as game development and design, broadcast design, and television effects. “We are taking both design and development skills that have been taught separately and integrating them together for the first time,” said.
