Instructors Build One-of-a-Kind Hydronic Boiler Trainer
During winter break 2014, College of DuPage HVACR
Instructors Bob Clark and Chris Lexow each donated more
than 300 hours of their time to construct a state-of-the-art
hydronic boiler trainer in the College’s HVACR lab in the
Technical Education Center. “We are thrilled to provide
students with top-notch hands-on experience provided by
this cutting-edge trainer,” Clark said. “This comprehensive
machine will enable students to understand every dynamic
they might encounter in a professional hydronic system,
fulfilling a need by students, a need in the industry and a

Naperville Project
Former COD PreArchitecture student
Khushboo Sha recently
returned to her alma mater
as a professional architect,
working on plans for the
recent renovation of the
College’s Naperville Center.
As a student, Shah lived in
Naperville and took a French language course at the Center as
well as several placement tests. This experience served her
well while working on renovations to the 20,460 square-foot
Naperville Center. After graduating in May 2013, she traveled to
China for five weeks to participate in the Solar Decathlon China
2013 competition, which was started by the U.S. and Chinese
governments to promote sustainable economic and social
development while encouraging the use of renewable energy
sources. “Since I started there, I have put my education to work
on projects for the General Services Administration, U.S.
Department of Agriculture, University of Illinois at UrbanaChampaign, Northwestern University, Argonne National
Laboratory, South Dakota State University and the department
of Veterans Affairs, in addition to working on this amazing
project to renovate the Naperville Regional Center for College of
DuPage,” she said. Read More

Stephanie Torres was
recently selected to serve as
student representative for the
Illinois Community College
Board (ICCB). Torres, who is
currently President of the COD
Student Leadership Council,
will begin her year-long term of
service for the ICCB in June. “It means so much that fellow student
leaders from across Illinois elected me to represent every
community college student,” Torres said. “This honor also carries an
immense amount of added responsibility. I do not take this privilege
lightly. It is my mission to be a dignified representative of community
college students and to uphold the amazing opportunities offered at

Rotary Club of Naperville Recognizes COD Students
The Rotary Club of Naperville Charities recently recognized
students from College of DuPage who received scholarship
assistance from the club this spring. Since 1996, the Rotary
Club of Naperville has provided 119 students with more than
$446,000 in scholarships to assist them with their studies at

Ceramic Artist Yoko Sekino-Bové Demonstration
Pittsburg-based ceramic artist Yoko Sekino-Bové
recently demonstrated some of her techniques to
students and community members during a workshop
at College of DuPage. Sekino-Bové spent time
demonstrating various hand building and wheel throwing
techniques before serving as keynote speaker at the
College's annual Adade Wheeler Woman of Distinction

New Game Animation and Design Degree
College of DuPage is offering a new Game Animation and
Design degree that will give students the skills to design
video and computer games across multiple platforms.
Recently approved by the Illinois Community College Board,
the associate in applied science degree will provide the
knowledge for students to gain entry-level positions as a
designer and animator in such fields as game development
and design, broadcast design, and television effects.
“We are taking both design and development skills that
have been taught separately and integrating them together
for the first time,” said. John Kronenburger, Associate

Scholarship

Living Leadership Program at

eligible for a new "Leadership
Pipeline" scholarship at North
Central College. "This scholarship was developed specifically for
COD students who wish to enter North Central College's
Leadership, Ethics and Values (LEV) academic program," said
Student Life Coordinator Stephanie Quirk. "We are very pleased
to offer our students this opportunity to continue their education
at a highly respected institution completing a program that is

COD 23rd Annual Asia Symposium
College of DuPage students, faculty, staff and community
members enjoyed the 23rd annual Asia Symposium “Emerging
Southeast Asia: Culture, History and the Arts.” Hosted by COD’s
Asia Committee and sponsored by the College’s Field
Studies/Study Abroad office, the event featured musical
performances by the Northern Illinois University Gamelan
Ensemble and an ensemble from the Thai Cultural and Fine Arts
Institute of Chicago. In addition, the event featured a martial arts
demonstration and presentations about the region’s history, as
well as the evolving cultural and political conditions of

‘Elements’ Fashion Show
Scheduled for May 8

Studies students will show off
their original designs during
“Elements,” the annual fashion
show that will take place at
7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 8, in
SRC 2000. “I want to make ‘Elements’ an awesome learning
experience for the students and a fantastic opportunity for our student
designers and their families to see their work on the runway,” said
Fashion Studies Lecturer Melissa Heischberg, who is coordinating

Summer Youth Academy Registration
Registration is now being taken for the COD
Summer Youth Academy programs. Featuring
programs designed for pre-school,
elementary, middle and high school students,
the Summer Youth Academy provides learning
and fun through a variety of camps, classes
and enrichment programs. Offerings include
the counselor in training program, foreign language immersion, math
classes, music classes, technology classes and writing classes, as
well as Teen X-Treme, a program geared toward teen students
featuring classes in art, mobile application design, robotics

Kudos to…Philosophy instructor James Magrini, who is
presenting a paper at the 14th annual American Association for
the Advancement of Curriculum Studies conference in Chicago
on April 14. The paper, “Meditative Thought and Gelassenheit in
Heidegger’s Thought of the ‘Turn’: Releasing Ourselves to the
Original Event of Learning,” will be published in Analysis and
Metaphysics (2015). The paper was co-authored by Elias
Schwieler from Stockholm University in Sweden.
