A native of Ghana, Awuah has spent much of his career at community colleges and most recently served as Vice President of Academic and Global Initiatives at SUNY Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, New York. “It is the leadership, the excellent faculty and staff as well as the support of the community that continue to make COD one of the best community colleges in the nation. Read More New Advanced Digital Manufacturing Center College of DuPage is preparing to roll out DuPage County’s newest advanced manufacturing training and development resource. The Advanced Digital Manufacturing Center will provide expertise, technology and space to meet current and emerging, highly sophisticated technical training needs. There are 406,700 manufacturing jobs in the Chicago, Joliet and Naperville areas, according to the Chicago Manufacturing Renaissance Council, with roughly 52,000 in DuPage County and an estimated need of 9,000 manufacturing workers in DuPage over the next 10 years. “These jobs require highly skilled, trained professionals,” said Business and Technology Dean Donna Stewart. “This center will enable College of DuPage to meet this employer need.” Read More New WeatherBug Partnership Enhances Meteorology Program and Community Safety Assistant Meteorology Professor Victor Gensini (left) joins Meteorology Professor Paul Sirvatka on top of the Berg Instructional Center for a closer view of the College’s new WeatherBug system. WeatherBug is an international network of real-time weather and lightening detection systems that provide millions of people worldwide with weather-related information. Through the partnership, COD has installed a new station that monitors the weather, providing information that is being used in the classroom and by Chicago media. In addition, a new website provides local weather conditions for both the campus and the community. “The administration understood the importance of being part of an international WeatherBug network,” Sirvatka said, “Our meteorology students are using this to study weather, and local media such as WGN, ABC7 and FOX5 are using our data during their on-air broadcasts, helping to ensure the safety of our residents.” Read More Secretary of State Jesse White at COD April 21 Secretary of State Jesse White will discuss the importance of organ and tissue donation as part of the “Be a Hero” campaign on Monday, April 21, at 11 a.m. in the SSC Atrium. More than 5,000 Illinois residents are currently waiting for a lifesaving organ, with a new person added to this list every 10 minutes. In addition on April 21, the Student Leadership Council will host a donor registration drive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the SSC Atrium. Kudos to…members of the COD Marketing and Communications team who earned six awards at the recent National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) annual conference – the highest number of awards received by any community college. It is the only national competition that honors excellence among 1,550-plus marketing and PR professionals from more than 650 two-year colleges in the U.S. COD received three gold awards for impact magazine, radio advertising and Images cable television program; one silver for our “I’m going to x but I started at College of DuPage” advertising series; and two bronze awards for media coverage of the College’s 3+1 program and alumni ads.
