COD Exceeds Spring Enrollment Goals
College of DuPage Spring 10th Day Full-Time Equivalent
(FTE) enrollment is up 3.8 percent at 15,348. Credit
Headcount is listed at 27,813, up 2.3 percent, and Total
Headcount (including non-credit students) is 28,783, up 1.6
percent compared to last spring. “We are thrilled with these
numbers, which exceeded our expectations and directly
reflect what we have known all along – College of DuPage is
the best higher education value around,” said COD President
Dr. Robert L. Breuder. “We are particularly pleased with the
overall headcount increases, as these numbers reflect
growth across the board in all of our traditional and nontraditional, credit and non-credit programs. This is an

on Saturday, Feb. 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in SRC 2000. Over
the past two weeks, more than 300 individuals participated in
free career information sessions in preparation of tomorrow’s

Kirk Overstreet is the
second of two new assistant
deans hired to work with the
College's more than 1,200
adjunct faculty members. In
his new position, Overstreet
and fellow Assistant Dean
Mark Collins will work on
adjunct faculty recruitment,
orientation, professional
development and evaluation.
“COD has more than 1,300 adjunct faculty members,” he said.
“Our goal is to reach out to these individuals and improve
processes not only for them, but ultimately our students as

COD Offers Spring ‘Reach Out’ Courses
Continuing Education is responding again this spring to a
need in the community for classes designed for young adults
with mild to moderate developmental disabilities. The “Reach
Out” courses complement other offerings within College of
DuPage. A student does not have to reside in District 502 to
attend. Classes can be taken multiple times as new information
is introduced. Classes include Independent Living Skills,
Communication Skills, Time Management Skills and SelfAdvocacy Skills. Read More
MAC Amphitheater Takes Shape
Workers install tensile strength beams that will support
the new covering over the amphitheater outside of the
McAninch Arts Center. The open-air covering will span
the existing 60-foot diameter performance stage just
south of the MAC. The permanent structure will include
a fabric membrane suspended by cables, which will be
supported by four concrete piers with stone veneers.
Four permanent lights will illuminate the underside of
the covering. The $34 million MAC renovation is
scheduled for completion in 2014.
Wheat Café, Culinary Market Open for Spring
The student-run Wheat Café and Culinary Market at
College of DuPage are open for spring term. Wheat Café
is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays for dinner and
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for lunch through
April 26. The Culinary Market sells items made by
students and will be open from noon to 2:30 p.m. on
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through the end

Bryan Bosque and Conor Burke are in the Strawdog
Theater’s current production of “Kill Shakespeare,” a radio
play hybrid with the original art from the graphic novel

WDCB Celebrates Black History Month
As part of its tribute to Black History Month in February,
90.9fm WDCB Public Radio will present a series of specials
that will be broadcast Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. and
repeated Wednesday night at 11 p.m. WDCB also streams its
broadcasts via a dedicated Internet audio stream from its
website WDCB.org, making WDCB available world-wide

African American Read-In Feb. 4
Stop by the 24th annual National African American Read-In
on Monday, Feb. 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in SRC 2000.
Sponsored by the COD Africa Committee, the National
Council of Teachers of English and the Black Caucus of
NCTE, the readings will include volunteer readers
presenting their favorite selections from African American
books, essays and poetry collections, as well as brief
biological sketches of the authors. For more information,

PLR Spring Submissions Due Feb. 6
The submission deadline for the spring issue of COD's
award-winning Prairie Light Review literary magazine is
Wednesday, Feb. 6. Submissions from students, staff and
District 502 community members may be of any original

Spread the Word – 2013 Essay Contest
The submission deadline for this year's Illinois Community
College Trustees Association Student Essay Contest is
Thursday, March 21. The contest is open to all currently
enrolled COD students, and GPA is not a factor. For more

In addition, the restaurant is

COD students, faculty and staff are invited to attend a discussion
with William M. Daley on Monday, Feb. 25, from 11 to 11:45 a.m. in
SRC 2000. A former U.S. Secretary of Commerce under President
Bill Clinton and former Chief of Staff for President Obama, Daley
will share stories about his public service under both
administrations, as well as offer his views on the world economy
and other issues faced by the U.S. and its international
counterparts. Due to space limitations, this presentation is open
only to College of DuPage students, employees and special invitees.

Merengue/Bachata Dance on Friday,
Feb. 8, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the

will feature free Salsa, Merengue and Bachata dance lessons from 7
to 8 p.m., with open dancing and a live disc jockey from 8 to 10 p.m.
