New Forensic Criminal Investigations Certificate
The new Forensic Criminal Investigations certificate at COD will
provide students with up-to-date training for the complexities of
this specialized field. Recently approved by the ICCB, the 22
credit-hour certificate consists of seven courses in criminal
justice, chemistry and anthropology. Courses for this new
certificate will be taught in the state-of-the-art forensics lab in
the College’s new Homeland Security Education Center. “This
lab was created specifically for a 21st century education that no
other Criminal Justice program has,” said Theo Darden,
associate professor of Criminal Justice. “Our training will reflect
what’s currently happening in the profession, allowing us to be
at the forefront with our curriculum.” Read More

COD Donates ‘Conduit 15’ Sculpture to Glen Ellyn
As a goodwill gesture and a continued sign of their improved
relationship with the Village of Glen Ellyn, College of DuPage
officials recently donated one of the pieces in its permanent art
collection to be installed at Panfish Park in the Village
Arboretum. Chicago artist Mike Baur's "Conduit 15" was
removed from the Glen Ellyn campus last week for installation
this spring. The steel and concrete sculpture was purchased in
1991 for $18,000 and is one of a series of conduit pieces Baur
created in the mid-1980s. The sculpture appraised for $25,000
in 2006. “Our campus has undergone a tremendous
transformation and this sculpture, while still artistically
relevant, no longer fits with our overall aesthetic,” College of
DuPage President Robert L. Breuder said. "We were
pleased to find this work a new home where members of the
public, particularly Glen Ellyn residents, can continue to enjoy
Baur's creation.” Read More

Dean of Students Services Sue Martin trained as a Marine
recruit for one week and is now applying that experience to her
work at COD. Martin took part in the annual Marine Corps
Educators Workshop earlier this year and traveled to the famed
Marine Corps Recruitment Depot in San Diego. While there,
Martin endured grueling physical and mental challenges that
actual recruits face and came away with strategies she’ll apply
to her work at the College. “This experience allowed me, as an
administrator, to learn the philosophy, leadership and strategy
used in building young recruits into Marines,” she said. “It
helped me understand their strategic teamwork and core values
and how it’s instilled in every member of the team.” Read More
