Business and Technology Dean Donna Stewart (above) says a
few words at the recently held 2012 Annual Award for Business
Excellence ceremony. The Business Ledger nomination
specifically cited the Hospitality Program for its outstanding
curriculum, faculty and facilities.

COD Earns Excellence Award from Business Ledger
recently received the 2012 Annual Award for Business
Excellence from the Daily Herald Business Ledger.
Recognized in the educational category, the College was
cited for its continued excellence in serving both students
and the community. Also recognized were its varied
educational opportunities, from face-to-face learning to
online classes; new facilities, such as the Culinary &
Hospitality Center and Homeland Security Education Center;
and the educational opportunities for students with
companies in the surrounding area. President Dr. Robert L.
Breuder said the honor comes at a time when the College
has prepared itself to meet the current and future needs of
students and the community. “College of DuPage is
undergoing a transformation both in terms of peerless
service to our students and state-of-the-art facilities,” Dr.

COD Car Show April 22
The College of DuPage Latino
Ethnic Awareness Assoc. will
host a car show featuring a
variety of classic, hot rods,
muscle cars, race cars, trucks
and motorcycles from 8 a.m. to
2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22, in
Fawell lots C and D on the
north side of the GlenE llyn campus. Presented in conjunction
with StreetStyle Car Club, the event features prizes in 15
categories with additional awards for Best Overall Show,
People's Choice and Club Choice. The awards ceremony begins
at 2:30 p.m. Public entrance to the show is free. Read More
COD Names 2012 Woman of Distinction
The College of DuPage Women's Studies Committee has named
Colleen Heflin of Woodridge as the 2012 Adade Wheeler
Woman of Distinction Award recipient. Heflin was honored at a
reception at the College on Wednesday, March 28, which
featured guest speaker North Park University History Professor
Theodora Ayot. Click here to see photos from this event. Heflin is
a sexual violence support services advocate for the YWCA. She
has chaired the Take Back the Night DuPage and serves as
president of the DuPage chapter of the National Organization
for Women. She is also a member of the DuPage Juvenile
Officers Association, a member of Public Affairs through the
Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault, and has volunteered
for Youth Outlook. Read More

The Money Smart Week
DuPage Fair & Expo is
scheduled for Saturday,
April 21, from 9:30 to
2 p.m. in the Homeland
Security Education Center. The fair is offered free of charge for
residents of DuPage and surrounding communities. Click here

COD Hosts Open House April 26
College of DuPage will showcase its programs and facilities
during the COD Open House from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday,
April 26, in the Student Services Center Atrium. Sponsored by
the Admissions and Outreach office, the free event targets
prospective students, their parents and the community and
provides a variety of ways to learn more about the College. “We
provide so much information about the College during this Open
House,” said Tracey Dulceak, Student Recruitment assistant.

inaugural “What's On Your Night Stand?” program. A wide
variety of favorite books and reading recommendations were

God’
COD’s College Theater
opens the provocative Bert
V. Royal production of “Dog
Sees God” on Thursday,
April 12. The Studio Theatre performance runs through
Sunday, April 29, with performances at 8 p.m. Thursdays
to Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Directed by Michael
Ryczek, “Dog Sees God" offers an irreverent, unauthorized
parody of the Peanuts gang as teenagers, delving into
complicated contemporary society issues. Read More

A Note from Your Foundation:
Congratulations to Fashion Merchandising and Design
coordinator Sharon Scalise and her colleagues. The College of
DuPage Foundation was recently awarded a $25,000 grant to
fund scholarships for students in the program. Each year,
starting this fall, $5,000 will be allotted to one or two students
selected through a combination of merit and need.
Guest Lecturer Dr. Honorine Ngou at COD April 10
The COD Africa and Africa Diaspora Committee will host a free
lecture by author and political activist Dr. Honorine Ngou at
on Tuesday, April 10, from 10 to 10:50 a.m. in SSC 3245. Dr.
Ngou will discuss the role of women in both traditional and
modern Gabonese society. Prior to the presentation, COD
Humanities Professor Julia diLiberti will provide an

Global Flicks: ‘A Town Called Panic’ April 10
Global Flicks will host free screenings of “Panique Au Village (A
Town Called Panic)” on Tuesday, April 10, at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m.
in the MAC Mainstage. Directed by Stephane Aubier and
Vincent Patar, this comedic and frequently surreal stop-motion
film is based on the Belgian animated cult TV series released by
Wallace & Gromit's Aardman Studios. Click here for more info.
Dana Carter Exhibit at
Gahlberg Through April 7
“People in Glass Houses,” an exhibition
by Dana Carter, is on display through
Saturday, April 7, at COD’s Gahlberg
Gallery. The exhibit “explores the
velocity of loss, the dissonance between
memory and visual perception, word
play and interactions with the natural world.” The Gahlberg
Gallery is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and
Saturday, 6 to 8 p.m. and during Mainstage performances.
The gallery also is open by appointment.
