COD Car Show April 22
College of DuPage will host its first-ever Car Show this weekend
on Sunday, April 22. The show is free to spectators, and will run
from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Fawell
Lots C and D, just north of the SRC.
Hosted by the COD Latino Ethnic
Awareness Association, the event will
feature classics, hot rods, muscle cars,
racers, trucks and motorcycles, as
well as vendors, music, exhibitors and
refreshments. Proceeds will fund
scholarship opportunities and conference experiences for Latino

COD Tobacco-Free on Aug. 6, 2012
It’s official! On Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, College of DuPage
will become a tobacco-free campus. During its April 19
regular meeting, the College’s Board of Trustees adopted
a Tobacco-Free Campus Policy, effective Monday, Aug. 6.
The new policy prohibits the use of tobacco and tobaccorelated products on all COD premises and in all Collegeowned vehicles. “Currently, one in four – or roughly 650 –
colleges and universities in the country have tobaccofree policies,” said COD Board Chairman David Carlin.
“This new policy sends a clear and powerful message that
the College supports a healthy lifestyle and a clean,
positive environment for learning, community events and
cultural activities on our campus.” Read More
Tobacco-Free Health Resource Fair April 25
College of DuPage will host a Tobacco-Free Health Resource
Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 5 to 7 p.m. on
Wednesday, April 25, in the atrium of the Student Services
Center. The free event will provide tips for kicking the habit,
guidelines for overall wellness and stress management, as
well as information on the real cost of tobacco use and
health-based services available at the College and in the
DuPage area. A similar health resource fair is planned for the
fall, with other classes and support opportunities in the

Reminder: Money Smart Fair & Expo is Saturday!
College of DuPage will host the Money Smart Week DuPage
Fair & Expo from 9:30
a.m. to 2 p.m. in the HEC
on Saturday, April 21. The
event is offered free of
charge for residents of
DuPage and surrounding
communities. In addition
to guest speakers and exhibitors from throughout DuPage,
Money Smart will include 14 breakout sessions covering both

‘Chaparral Country is Tobacco-Free’ Selected as Slogan
Student E’laina Craven’s slogan for the College’s tobacco-free
information campaign won first prize and earned the Oak
Park/Roselle resident a new Kindle Fire and a free fall 2012
premium parking pass. “I selected ‘Chaparral Country’
because I wanted a phrase that was catchy and easy to
remember that also included a reference to the school,” said
Craven, 23, who is enrolled in the Teacher Preparation
program and plans to teach elementary education after
earning a degree at University of Illinois at Chicago. Craven’s
slogan, “Chaparral Country is Tobacco-Free” will be featured
in an information campaign to spread the word about the
Tobacco-Free Policy that goes into effect Monday, Aug. 6.

Electronics Recycling April 28
COD will partner with Universal Recycling
Technologies to host its first Electronics
Recycling Event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on
Saturday, April 28, in the College 2 parking
lot (located south of the BIC along College
Road). URT will reuse, refurbish and
recycle materials using markets that comply
with local, state and federal laws and regulations, following strict
standards that have earned “E-Steward” certification. There is no

Congratulations…to COD’s newly-appointed Deputy
Chief of Police Ray Snisko. Snisko, who previously served
for five years as the operations lieutenant on the COD police
force, brings to his new position nearly 30 years’ experience
with the Illinois State Police, 18 of which were as a senior
command officer. Snisko replaces newly instated COD Chief
of Police Joe Mullin who was awarded this position
following the retirement of Mark Fazzini.
Free Lecture by Alexandria University President
Dr. Osama Ibrahim at COD April 21
The College of DuPage Middle East Committee will host a
special presentation by Alexandria University President
Dr. Osama Ibrahim on Saturday,
April 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at
CHC Amphitheatre. During this
program, Dr. Ibrahim will discuss
his experience as the first-ever
elected president of a state
university in Egypt, as well as his
vision for the University of
Alexandria and collaboration with
foreign institutions. A Professor of
Ophthalmology at Alexandria
University, Dr. Ibrahim was recently
selected to serve on a commission to
draft Egypt's new Constitution. Read More

Isolated Electrical Shutdown in SRC April 28
On Saturday, April 28, there will be isolated electrical
shutdowns in the Student Resource Center for short
durations of time. Facilities, Planning and Construction
recommends that all computers be shut down before then.

the award-winning film, “The Fat Boy

COD’s annual Open House will take place this Thursday, April 26,
from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Student Services Center Atrium.
MPTV Showcase April 26
The MP/TV program will present the MPTV Showcase 2012 at 7
p.m. on Thursday, April 26, at the MAC, Room 175. The annual
event is a celebration of beginner and advanced student work in a
variety of areas, including documentary, music video, narrative
short, traditional animation, stop-motion animation and 3-D
computer-generated animation. Read More
Spread the Word…Adult Student Awards at COD
The Enrollment Management office will award 40 scholarships for
both the summer and fall 2012 semesters that cover 50 percent of
a student’s in-district tuition rates. Application deadlines are
May 1 for summer and Aug. 1 for fall. Applicants must be 19 years
or older, a first-time degree- or certificate-seeking student (former
COD students may apply but must have attended before fall 2009
and not earned a degree or certificate), and have a 3.0/4.0 GPA.
