Who Can Enroll in the Program?
Financial Advantage
• Students who have completed an Associate in Arts degree
with the selected courses required.
• With this 2+2 program, students pay College of DuPage tuition
for College of DuPage courses.
• New students interested in completing a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Early Childhood Special Education from Lewis
University in partnership with COD.
• Lewis University courses are offered at a significantly reduced
tuition rate.
• Students who graduated from COD and went elsewhere can
be considered for the program if they complete an Associate
in Arts degree with the selected courses required.
Program Overview
• This program offers a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood
Special Education. Graduates of the program are eligible to
apply for a state of Illinois Professional Educator License with
an endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education.
• The first semester of Lewis University classes are held on the
COD campus.
• All required field experiences are able to be completed in the
COD area.
• Lewis University College of Education programs are approved
by the Illinois State Board of Education.

• Lewis University students are required to complete a minimum of 128
credit hours to earn a B.A. degree.
• *One of the science courses must have a lab component. Refer to
the COD 2013-2015 Catalog for a list of course options.
• Students must pass the Illinois Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP)
or have earned a composite score of 22 on the ACT Plus Writing
within the last 10 years and have a GPA of at least 2.75 prior to full
admission to a College of Education Teacher preparation program. It
is advised that students attempt the TAP or the ACT Plus Writing at
least once prior to beginning coursework in the College of Education.
Students may begin their Lewis University coursework at COD
and will have one additional semester to fulfill the test requirement.
Students should consult with the director of advising to discuss these
options. Lewis University has resources available to assist students
in preparation of the Test of Academic Proficiency.
• **Documentation showing a combined total of at least 25 lab hours
completed in an infant/toddler setting must be provided, including
evidence of curriculum planning and child observation components.
• ***Grade of “C” or higher required.
