Springtacular 2016

will come home on Monday in
your child’s Take Home Folder. If
you have an older child at SCE,
he or she will bring your family’s
information home. You won’t
want to miss this fun event!

This W eek in Room 108
*Math: This week in math we
circled back to our earlier learning
about the teen numbers. The
students will need to have a strong
understanding of teen numbers in
first grade, so we are reviewing
and refreshing. We call them the
“Tricky Teens” because sometimes
they can be tricky! Today your
child brought home a game called, “I
have… Who has…” that you can play
at home to practice the teen
numbers. Have fun!
*Language Arts: Our writing this
week has been about spring break.
We have spent time remembering
and sharing what we did on spring
break. The students are learning
that pre-writing helps us to
organize our thoughts before we
put our words on paper. All
students made a list of places
they went, people they saw, and
fun things they did. The students
are currently in the process of
writing stories about spring break.
Next week the kids will engage in
the process of peer editing by
sharing their work with a friend
and then correcting any mistakes
and/or adding details.
When reading with and to your
child at home, encourage him or
her to retell the story with details.
Understanding what we read and
making meaning is so important!
