PURPOSE:
Use of career related materials and computer software to help in clarifying career options and to assist in making academic and
personal choices related to career information.
GRADING:
Class Attendance:
Because a lot of what I expect you to learn will result from classroom interaction, I expect you to be at every class. To be in
class, you need to keep up with the readings and assignments in order to actively participate in class and your own development.
You are also required to set up an individual appointment with me at the Career Services Office sometime during the semester.
Wait until after you get both your CISS and MBTI assessments back and bring them to the meeting. This meeting time will be
helpful in discussing specific questions and issues you have concerning your career and/or job search and class projects. Please
bring portfolios to every class.
Assignments:
It is understood that there is an extensive amount of work required for a 2 credit class, but this is perhaps the only time, or one of
the very few times, anyone is going to ask you to consider questions you personally need to build into your career/life planning
process. The majority of the grade will be based on satisfactory completion of the following assignments:
1) Class Discussion
2) Resume and Cover Letter
3) Portfolio 1 & 2
4) Final Mind-Map
If you have questions on any of these assignments, I expect you to assume responsibility to ask me to clarify what is expected. I
expect all assignments to be completed by the day they are due. Exceptions can be made if you take responsibility for letting me know
about problems before the class in which they are due. Seniors and Non-traditionals: Because you may be in a different transition
stage due to graduation and job search, I am open to alternative projects, but you must take the responsibility to discuss this with me.
The class is set up on the principle that you want to be here, you are not required to be here, and that you are going to be keeping
up with the assignments for your own development - not mine. Each of you have different circumstances and places to get stuck -make sure you take responsibility in getting assistance and getting unstuck. I encourage all of you to make an appointment with
me to discuss where you are in your career search at any time during and after the semester.
The majority of the final grade will be based on your projects and the effort you have put into getting what you need out of class.
Lack of effort and quality of your work will result in a lower grade. I assume that all of you have an A, until proven to be lower.
If you have questions concerning your grade or how you are going to be grade, please take the responsibility to ask for
clarification.
