Friday 3/11 _______________________________________ SCE’S Math Problem of the Month - MARCH The purpose of the SCE Math Problem of the Month is to encourage students to work on problems that make them feel successful, enjoy math, persevere, and problem solve at home. I am so proud of all of the students who participated in February! Lots of students have expressed an interest in this, so please note that the March Problem of the Month is now posted. We hope you choose to participate and have some fun with math! You do NOT need to sign in to access this. If you are prompted to sign in, just select the “March” link from the options on the left side of the page. https://scepom.wiki.dublinschools.net/Marc h+Problem+of+the+Month We had a fantastic Read Across America week here at Scottish Corners! The kids showed their school spirit by participating in the special dress days, we collected a lot of nonperishable food items to donate to the food pantry, and we all read a ton! The AM class read 1,649 minutes at home this week and collected 71 canned goods. The PM class read 1,492 minutes at home this week and collected 103 food items. Wow! We loved engaging with Pancakes for Breakfast by Tomie DePaola. The book is a wordless picture book and the possibilities for learning activities and extensions are endless. We read it together and had great discussions using the “I See, I Think, I Wonder…” routine. In math, students used their problem-solving skills to figure out how many pancakes we would need if we wanted to make enough so that everyone in the class could have two to eat. On Gourmet Thursday the students imagined what kind of pancake they would like to create and wrote about their creations during writing workshop. They had some interesting ideas! J I saw a lot of students and parents at the pancake breakfast this morning! Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to come. We had a very busy week but it was all worth it! The kids had a blast and are excited about reading! Thank you for your support at home!
