Also, keep a hardcopy of the Composition. Sometimes, documents get lost in cyberspace. GRADING SYSTEM: 1. Exams 60% 2. Workbook 30% 3. Composition 10% Grades will be assigned on a scale, not a curve: 90-100 A 80-89 B 70-79 C 60-69 D Below 60 F COURSE DESCRIPTION AND POLICIES Spanish 1 is an introductory Spanish course where students study pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence structure, grammar, and cultural readings that develop the four language skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing. The final goal of the course is to provide the foundations for oral comprehension and proficiency in using the Spanish language in real communicative situations at the introductory level. The audio CD’s are very important for the distance learning classes. The tests will be similar to the workbook. (Please call bookstore for information on the audio CD’s 661- 763-7731 Another option is to go on-line and listen to them. These are some Learning Outcomes you should be able to do by the end of the semester. 1. Exchange greetings and farewells orally in Spanish. 2. Using formulaic phrases and memorized vocabulary, the student will be able to order drinks at a Spanish speaking restaurant. 3. Using formulaic phrases and memorized vocabulary, the student will be able to create a story. * INSTRUCTIONS. 1) First, read and study the lesson in the textbook. I recommend you do the activities in the textbook. 2) Then, do the workbook and laboratory manual (they are both in the workbook). The workbook and the lab manual for Lessons 1-6 will be DUE on November 12 , 2009). 3) Study for the test by reviewing the lesson in the textbook. If you want, take the “Practice Quiz” on-line before each quiz or exam. You have to memorize the vocabulary in each lesson and learn the grammar concepts. A good study guide is the Practice Tests at the end of the lessons. The Audio CD’s for the lab manual may be purchased from the bookstore (661-763-7731).
