Scarlet and Gray Newsletter October 12th to 16th, 2015 \ Volume 19, Issue 8 Monday We greeted classmates, sang ‘God Bless America’, said our class promise and did calendar. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. The morning class visited the Book Fair. We sang our ‘Days of the Week’ song and ‘Macarena Months’. Our kindergartner of the week shared his/her poster and we wrote a sentence about him/her using shared writing. We learned our new popcorn word, ‘the’ and did rainbow writing of it. We read our poem of the week, ‘Macarena Months’. We heard our letter ‘n’ presentation, felt how it sounds in our mouth and throat, made our ‘n’ books and practiced writing it in the air, on our hand, on the carpet and on our white boards. We learned that upper and lower case letters make the same sound and that upper case letters are used at the beginning of names and sentences. We read Watch Me Throw the Ball! and Knuffle Bunny both by Mo Willems. We read A Picture Book of Christopher Columbus and we did a craft with the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. We had recess. We were introduced to measurement and measurement vocabulary (long, short, tall, heavy and light). Wednesday We greeted friends, sang ‘God Bless America’, said our class pledge and did calendar. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We counted to 100 by 5’s and 10’s. Our kindergartner of the week brought something for us to estimate and we wrote a sentence about her using shared writing, being sure to begin our sentences and names with upper case letters. We read Elephant’s Cannot Dance! by Mo Willems. We heard our ‘s’ presentation, felt how it sounds in our mouth and throat and practiced writing it in the air, on our hand, on the carpet and on our white boards. We made our one ‘s’ books. We wrote all of the words we could think of in a Word Spree. We read Knuffle Bunny Free by Mo Willems. We had recess. We read The Cow Buzzed and reviewed how to protect others from our coughs and sneezes and that we need to get a ‘squirt’ of hand sanitizer when we blow our nose. We learned how to ‘tag’ as we count to make sure that we say one number as we touch one item. The AM class had a fire drill. Tuesday We greeted each other, sang ‘God Bless America’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by ones. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. Our kindergartner of the week brought in something for science. We wrote a sentence about him/her and another sentence using our sense of sight with his/her science image using shared writing. We did speedwriting of our popcorn word. We read Pigs Make Me Sneeze! by Mo Willems and learned about how to prevent the spread of germs. We heard our letter ‘e’ presentation, felt how it sounds in our mouth and throat, made our ‘e’ books and practiced writing it in the air, on our hand, on the carpet and on our white boards. We read Knuffle Bunny Too by Mo Willems. The AM class visited stations matching and sorting upper and lower case letters and graphed whether they would want to sail across the ocean on a ship (like Christopher Columbus). The PM class went to the book fair. We had recess. We played mingle and count in math. Thursday We greeted one another, sang ‘God Bless America’, said our class promise and did calendar. We subitized ten frames to 5 and counted backwards from 20. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. Our kindergartner of the week shared something for social studies and we wrote our final sentence about him/her using shared writing. We each wrote our own sentence about him/her. We read Can I Play Too? by Mo Willems. We heard our ‘sh’ presentation felt how it sounds in our mouth and throat. We made our ‘f’ books. We read Don’t Let the Pigeon Ride the Bus!! by Mo Willems. We had recess. The AM class did an M & M upper and lower case letter matching activity. We read The Button Box about sorting and then we practiced sorting at least two different materials in multiple ways. Friday We greeted each another, sang ‘God Bless America’, said our class pledge and did calendar. We counted on from a mystery numbers. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We had Family Friday. We highlighted our new popcorn word in and read It Is Fall. We read I Am Going! by Mo Willems. The AM class had library. The PM class did stations matching and sorting upper and lower case letters. We did fitness/math using positional words (above, behind, etc.) and had recess. We had Guidance.
