O’CONNOR’S 3RD GRADE CLASS z Ask A 3rd Grader In Our Class About... z Olivia is carefully studying the properties of a rock sample during science time! “Queen Olivia” & her gigantic Minion, Kevin, sure wowed the audience! nnn In Reading Workshop we applied our knowledge of adjectives to the concept of “character traits.” After reading a nonfiction piece about Harriet Tubman, we picked adjectives to describe her. We then had to find evidence in a short text to support why we chose the character traits we did. Tell someone at home what you wrote about, how did you describe Ms. Tubman? Math Workshop has been super busy this week! Using an oversized number line, we rounded numbers to the nearest ten and hundred. We also played fact BINGO which reinforced quick recall of basic addition and subtraction facts. The final topic we discussed was how to use mental math and the hundreds chart to quickly and accurately add two digit by two digit numbers. See how fast you can solve this problem: 47 + 43! What strategy did you use? In Science we started to think about rocks! Students were given a variety of rock samples and were asked to make careful observations and then document the properties they noticed. We discovered that matter is in rocks...even air (AKA a gas)!
