O’CONNOR’S 3RD GRADE CLASS z Ask A 3rd Grader In Our Class About... z Sometimes when we find words we do not know in our reading, we can use special clues called, context clues to help us figure out how to say and read a tough word. We practiced identifying context clues and will continue to think about this as a reading strategy next week. “Queen Kiera” shared a dear member of her family with us this week...Charlie! Our study of subtraction continued in Math Workshop! We spent time looking at models of numbers and showing how and why the traditional subtraction algorithm works. We practiced solving 2 and 3 digit subtraction problems that involved borrowing and regrouping in the ones, tens and hundreds. We also worked on using addition to check to see if our subtraction answers were correct. Practicing our Word Study List was interesting this week! We made Word Study Turkeys- which are on display in the back of our classroom! Listening to Kiera play the harp for us was absolutely breathtaking! nnn Veterans Day was a great opportunity for us to stop and think about all of the brave men and women who serve(ed) in the military! We made honor badges for each person that we knew to be a Veteran and created a bar graph using these badges. All branches of the military were represented!
