O’CONNOR’S 3RD GRADE CLASS z Ask A 3rd Grader In Our Class About... z We spent time this week in Reading Workshop reading nonfiction text and writing responses to comprehension questions pertaining to what we read. We worked on finding the main idea of passages and going back to find evidence that supports answers we wrote. A few of the short passages we read were: “Community Helpers,” “Music Within Cultures” and “World Holidays.” Can you tell someone at home what was the main idea of 2 of these selections? “King” Anthony brought in a cactus from Peru. It was a present from his grandmother! Anthony has a 4 year old shih-tzu named after him - meet Tony! nnn Our multiplication study continues! We talked about how to represent multiplication equations using models and arrays. Tell someone at home about the Commutative Property of Multiplication (HINT: Does 4 x 3 equal the same product as 3 x 4?) How can you use repeated addition to show this problem: 7 x 4 = 28? In Social Studies we are focusing on how people are part of a particular culture. We learned that culture is defined as “a way of life shared by a group of people.” This can include shared: language, fashion, foods, games, sports, music and holidays. Name some of our American cultural traditions? Upcoming Events &Reminders: BUY DAY AT THE BOOK FAIR!: If students are planning on buying books at the Book Fair, please make sure to send in money on Monday, Dec. 7th. STATE TESTING: All 3rd Grade students will be taking the State English-Language Arts Test on December 8th and 9th. The test is from 9:30-11:00. Please be sure students eat a good breakfast and are well rested on those days! WELCOME WAREHOUSE! We will be wrapping the gifts for the Welcome Warehouse on Friday, December 11th.
