We began a new read aloud book this week, The One
and Only Ivan. We enjoyed learning about the real Ivan and
have talked about the features of realistic fiction in this
story. In Writing Workshop we finished our plant research
and wrote paragraphs that answered 3, “I wonder”
questions about a plant we were interested in exploring. We
will spend next week taking our research and creating a
final project that will teach our peers about what we
discovered. Tell someone at home what plant you studied
and what your 3, “I wonder” questions were!
In Math Workshop we spent time identifying an
unknown factor in a division problem as well as figuring out
how multiplication and division are related. See if you can
solve this problem: I know that 7 x 5 = 35. How can I use
this fact to find the answer to this problem: It took Sam 35
minutes to run laps. If Sam ran 7 laps, how long did each
lap take to run?
During Social Studies, we continued to look at how our
city has changed over time. We studied a timeline of Dublin
and talked about which events shown, helped to change
Dublin from a rural community to a suburban city and
which events were just plain interesting! What is the
difference between a rural and urban community?

DANCE-A-THON: The PTO Dance-A-Thon is Friday, Feb. 19th!
NO SCHOOL FEBRUARY 15th & 26th: There is no school for
students on Monday, February 15th in honor of Presidents’ Day.
There will be no school on Friday, Feb. 26th (Staff Work Day).
PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES: Conferences are February
23rd & 25th...confirmation times/dates have been sent out. Please
