Parents, relatives, public and private agency employees, childcare providers, physicians, and concerned citizens are encouraged to help school districts find any child, ages birth – 21, who may have a disability and is in need of special education and related services. If you suspect a child may have a disability, help is available. Clinic Corner Lots of medications (prescription and over-the-counter) come into the clinic during the course of the school year. We do not store medication over the summer months and have to dispose of it when the clinic is closed. Please make arrangements to pick up your childʼs unused medications as soon as possible. We cannot send medication home with elementary students. If you havenʼt picked up your childʼs medication by the last day of school, any remaining medication will be disposed of properly. This is also a good time to pick up the forms needed for next year so you and your doctor can complete them over the summer. Please call the clinic if you have any questions. Have a happy, safe and healthy summer break! Please return the parent volunteer form (on back) if you are able to help. STUDENT ARTWORK ON DISPLAY Every student who has been at Wyandot for the entire year in grades 1-5 will have two or more pieces of artwork on display. These works will include individual artwork and as well as several collaborative works. DURING THE ART SHOW MEET WYANDOT’S VISITING ARTISTS: Todd Yarrington Photographer and Lynda Elias, Mosaic Artist As you know Wyandot students have been busy with two artist residencies this spring. All students in grades 1-5 recently spent one week photographing the biodiversity of our natural environment while seining the pond during their art classes. These photographs are being used to create the artwork for 16 new 4’ X 8’ ceiling panels for the pedestrian tunnel behind our school. Photographer Todd Yarrington has been teaching students in grades 4 & 5 how to use GIMP software to artistically manipulate the photographs and layer these images to create their artwork. Mosaic artists Lynda Elias and her assistant Virginia Corwin are currently working with all classes grades 1-5 during their art classes to complete over 450 square foot of mosaics in the pedestrian tunnel. The mosaic images create by students reflects our pond studies and the biodiversity of Dublin’s natural environment. Both artists will be actively involved in this years art show! DOES YOUR FAMILY HAVE A TILE? If your family is new to Wyandot or you have not yet made a family tile, you should start planning your family tile design now. Our commons area hosts hundreds of family tiles, a tradition started at Wyandot in 2004. On the back of this flyer is a space for tile planning. If you plan to make a tile this year please turn in the completed plan by MONDAY, MAY 14th. Families should plan to paint their tile designs together during the art show on May 17th. SEE HOW THE ARTS DEVELOP THE 4 C’S OF 21ST CENTURY LIFE SKILLS! CREATIVITY-At this years art show you will see many creative and innovative ways our students have learned to express themselves. A wide variety of media, techniques and skills will be presented. COLLABORATION- Students in every grade level work collaboratively to create community based artworks. They use a variety of methods to generate ideas using personal reflection and building from the ideas of others, develop skills defending and presenting their ideas to classmates, utilize the democratic process to make decisions, learn a variety of ways to compromise and combine ideas so that all members ideas are represented, and ways to utilizing cooperative learning, utilizing strengths of each individual and managing group work. CRITICAL THINKING- Critical thinking is an essential skill utilized in personal and collaborative artwork. Students must evaluate ideas, skills, use of media, and effectiveness of their cognitive and technical work at every stage of their progress. Researching ideas (self reflection, use of technology, artists works, observations of our local and global communities); reflecting and refining ideas with peers and adults; experimenting with processes, techniques, media and effective communication require constant evaluation of the process. COMMUNICATION- Students’ artworks reflect and communicate their ideas resulting from authentic community based issues. You will see how first grade expresses collaboration through images of overlapping hands to 5th grade who interpreted themes integrated into their music and art based on their ideas about Joy, Friendship, Hope, Dreams and Laughter through images combining photography and drawing. All grade levels have explored environmental issues especially those involving water as a result of our ongoing explorations linked to our pond studies. A few of these artworks express ideas about energy, recycling, painting representations of our pond, steam and river water as we see them through microscopes, to ideas of how we can use artwork to impact the others to help become environmentally aware and active citizens. FAMILY TILES What should be included in our family tile design? Your family tile should represent your family in a special way. This may include ethnic backgrounds, cultural depictions, family heritage or family activities. Please draw your design in the space provided. During the art show on May 17th your family should allow time to work together to paint the design on a tile. Please return your family tile Design by Tuesday May 15. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - PARENT VOLUNTEER FORM: Morning 9:30- 12:00/Afternoon 1:00-4:00.
