ASCRC Minutes 11/16/10
Members Present: M. Beebe-Frankenberger, B. Borrie, D. Dalenberg, C. Henderson, L.
Higgins, C. Knight, S. Greymorning, M. Grimes, T. Manuel, J. Sanders, L. Sims, K.
Spika, E. Uchimoto, J. Staub, A. Williams
Members Absent/Excused: P. Muench, K. Zoellner, A. Walker-Andrews
Ex-Officio Present: B. Holzworth, E. Johnson, S. O’Hare
Chair Knight called the meeting to order at 2:10 p.m.
The minutes from 11/9/10 were amended and approved.
Communications:

Registrar Johnson reported on the meeting with Banner. Banner does not have a
baseline function that will allow students to register in one course (cross-listed) and
have another course (CCN course) appear on the transcript. This functionality would
require programming by the Information Technology Office.
Business Items:

Professor Manuel provided follow-up information for the two Journalism courses
(JOUR 431 and 432) and they were approved. The subcommittee is still waiting for
a response from Business Technology.

Professor Staub presented the consent agenda for the Sciences. The items appended
were approved. CHMY 481 UG Science in Science Fiction Films requires
clarification from the instructor. Graduate Council recommends that the course have
SCI rubric because it lacks sufficient Chemistry content. A revised form has not yet
been received. ASCRC agreed that the course was more appropriately classified as a
general science course. It, however, would like the course to be taught at a lower
level. It is unclear how English majors with upper-division standing would have
sufficient scientific knowledge for a 400 level science course. It was suggested that
the course at least require a prerequisite of completion of the general education
science requirement. Approval of GEO 421 UG Hydrology was postponed because
of possible overlap with the Hydrology course in Forestry.

Professor Borrie presented the consent agenda for Forestry and Biomedical Sciences.
The items appended were approved. Approval of CSD 360 and 430 was postponed.
The subcommittee is waiting for signed forms.

Professor Beebe-Frankenberger presented a section of the consent agenda for the
Social Sciences. The items appended were approved. Anthropology used the old
rubric and will need to assure the course numbers were referenced against the CCN
matrix. Approval of ARAB 307 Model Arab League was postponed. The instructor
will be asked whether it would be more appropriate for separate course numbers for
delegates and staff. There are numerous issues with the proposed Certificate in Police
Science. A meeting is scheduled between Academic Affairs, Applied Arts and
Sciences and other stakeholders to discuss the proposal. Approval of COMM 360
Forensics/ Honors was also postponed. The form requested to extend the repeatability
credits from 12 to 16. Sixteen repeatable credits is considered excessive; thus further
justification is needed.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 PM.
