ON-CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT 1) What is on-campus employment? On-campus employment means the your work provides services directly to the students and the university. The definition of ‘on-campus’ can include off-campus sites if they are related to the university curriculum or research; check with FSSS to make sure. 2) When am I eligible? You may work as soon as you report it to the school indicated on your Form I-20. You must pursue a full-course of study and maintain good academic standing. 3) What forms do I need? A) Form I-20 B) A U.S. Social Security Number (or application receipt) C) An authorization letter from FSSS 4) How do I prove that I am legally employable? You receive an authorization letter from FSSS, and complete a Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) with your employer. 5) May I work part-time or full-time? You may work part-time (20 hours per week or less) while school is in session and fulltime (more than 20 hours) during holidays and vacation. 6) How long can I work? If you are in lawful F-1 status, you may work on-campus as long as you are full-time, registered student in good academic standing. 7) Where can I find on-campus jobs? Career Services: Lommasson Center 154 http://www.umt.edu/studentjobs/ Career Services provides this very useful site for students who are looking for on-campus and off-campus work-study, non-work-study and volunteer positions. (Please note that foreign students are only eligible for ONCAMPUS, NON-WORK STUDY employment) It has the most updated list of job openings for UM students. When you do the search, make sure that you choose “on-campus” and “non-work study” or “volunteer” in the category. Before you go to any other websites in the university to find a job, check this out first! Other campus departments have student worker positions, but the following departments have many positions for students: Dining Services: Lommasson Center 145 (main office) http://life.umt.edu/UDS/folder/Employment Dining Services is the largest student employer on campus, with 450-650 student employees in eleven dining operations each semester. Dining Services can be very flexible with your shift so it will not conflict with your class schedule. You can also get a free meal after working for 2 hours. Application forms can be found at the website and at Dining Services’ operations on campus, such as Food Zoo, UC Food Court, La Peak, and BiSip. Facility Services: Physical Plant Building 32 http://www.facs.umt.edu/ Facility Services is in charge of building maintenance, campus mail, custodial services, and transportation services. They have hired many students who can perform general cleaning as custodians. Some positions are offered year-round. Residence Life: Turner Hall 101 http://life.umt.edu/RLO/name/employment Residence Life has several different positions for students, such as resident assistants, custodians, or front desk attendants.
