Title III Times
From the Director
Colleagues,
Volume 6, Issue 6
We are now in Year 3 of the Title III project. As you know, Methodist University (MU) received funding for a
Title III grant in October 2010. Title III funds are to be used to upgrade our technology, both in terms of installing a campus-wide integrated database and installing instructional technology in our academic facilities.
Here is a review of activities that have occurred in the last month.

system (Jenzabar EX), as well as adding functionality to the JICS web portals. Our tremendous thanks
for the OIC staff’s hard work!
• Due to the phenomenal growth in data storage and data processing generated by our high degree of use
of the Jenzabar EX system, OIC Networking staff hves upgraded the server for Jenzabar, thus increasing
our storage and backup capacity. (This is a good thing in that it demonstrates how much we as a campus are utilizing Jenzabar.)
Instructional technology:
• Dr. Bruce Morgan continues to hold training sessions on the use of Smartboards, iPads, and other instructional technology. Please contact him to reserve a seat in one of his sessions.
• We continue our diligence in reminding faculty to give us their assessment reports regarding use of
instructional technology in their classrooms. These reports are being prepared by faculty members who
had a TIP funded in Year 2. I will be sending out an email to TIP-funded faculty reminding them to
turn in their TIP assessment reports.
• Please keep in mind we have faculty development money to sponsor faculty attendance to instructional
technology/teaching and learning conferences. Please contact Bruce Morgan or a member of the Title
III Technology Integration Committee (Carl Dyke, J.D. Knode, Mark Bowman, Gary Hinson) for details on how to make a proposal for such funding.
• We keep receiving Technology Integration Proposals (TIPs) for integrating instructional technology into
teaching and learning. A number of these TIPs have been funded for Year 3, while others are being
tweaked and resubmitted. There is still time to submit TIP proposals for funding. We are pleased by
the enthusiasm shown by faculty for using instructional technology in the classroom.
• A Title III faculty development event is scheduled for the morning of Reading Day (May 1, 2013). This
event will feature three speakers: Steve Anderson from University of South Carolina-Sumter, who is
currently conducting research on “flipping the classroom”; Janet Hurn from Miami University of Ohio
whose current focus is using iPads in the classroom; and our own Mark Bowman from the Justice Studies program, who wants to share his knowledge and use of Google Apps. Also, we plan to provide a
boxed lunch for attendees to “grab and go” at the end of the event so they can get to their Reading Day
afternoon tasks.
• Related to the faculty development event on Reading Day – there will be a poster session made available for those faculty who received Title III funding to attend a conference as a means for them to share
with their faculty colleagues what they learned at those conferences. Please contact Dr. Bruce Morgan
for details.
That’s all I have for this month. I hope you had a great Spring Break!
Best regards,
Don Lassiter, Title III Director

2013 Edition of the Free Education Technology Resources eBook
EmergingEdTech’s 2013 Free Education Technology Resources eBook
This eBook is a publication of EmergingEdTech.com. Introduction
This digital booklet provides an introduction and easy access to many of the wonderful free applications and resources available on the Internet for teachers to use in and out of the classroom as part of
the instructional and administrative process.
This is the 2013 update of this eBook (the 2011 edition was the first one) and there have been a lot of
updates made this year! I’ve added several new sections, including “(More) Flipped Classroom Resources”, “MOOCs”, “Teaching with Cell Phones & Smartphones”, and “(More) Cloud Apps”. I’ve also
added a good deal of new iPad related content, and lots of other material throughout the book. The
Facebook and Twitter chapters have been grouped under a more general “Social Networking and Social Learning Tools” chapter that includes articles about other popular social apps like Pinterest and
Tumblr. As always, existing links have been checked for validity and some older material has been
removed.
The majority of content in this eBook consists of edited articles originally published as blog posts on
EmergingEdTech.com. After some chapters, a section of links to additional related articles is provided. I hope you find some great, fun, and productive tools here. Please feel free to share these resources with your colleagues, and to come and participate in the dialogue on EmergingEdTech.com!
