University Climate Survey FY 2012-2013
Members of the faculties at institutions around the State of Texas are conducting university climate
surveys for greater transparency to enable better planning, fairness, and accountability among one
another. This survey evaluates administrators and concerns for the 2012-2013 school year. The results
of the survey will be placed on the PV Faculty Senate website.
Only respond to statements with which you are familiar. The survey ends on Monday 11:59 p.m. March
25, 2013.
Rate from 1 = low/very negative/strongly disagree to 5 = high/very positive/strongly agree

There is a major disconnect between the administration and faculty.
Faculty members feel undervalued. Faculty members are fearful of
losing their jobs. Too many politics are played by the administration
in the college of education at PV. Most of the administrators are very
inefficient.

Murder in Progress!!! Fix and Heal the College of Education
ASAP!!!! EMERGENCY!!! It's on life support!!! STAT!!!! Yates
almost killed it!!!! Bring it back to life!!!!
Let the new dean clean up the mess created by Yates. The College of
Education used to be respected in districts and university community
as a place for educating strong Black educators and leaders, but NOT
after Yates. He has practically destroyed the college with his abusive
and crazy behaviors, CLUELESSNESS and LAZINESS! He would
be up in the conference room boxing up candy with an assembly line
of workers. Call TAMU, are any of the deans there up in the
conference rooms making and boxing up boxes of candy, "lunching
with each other" and looking up how to do the wobble on the
internet?
He has RUN from and been RUN OUT of district to district, state to
state, and now is at PV. Talk to people at his former jobs and they
will tell you, "wherever he goes, the place falls!" When is he going to
realize, he is the problem? You would think he would get it, but he is
too dirty, petty, messy, and CRAZY to figure it out. This man tries to
BREAK people. He is so vindictive and manipulative which is the
sign of very low self-esteem and narcissistic personality disorder. He
NEEDS major counseling and therapy for his own sake. Yates does
NOT have an anger management problem. Yates HAS a RAGE
management problem. He is always mad and angry about something
except when he is keeping up mess and trouble, then he gets real
happy. You would think that with all the stuff the university got on
him that he would get somewhere and sit down and shut up, but no he
is still at it and using his PUPPETS and cronies in educational
leadership to do his dirty work. The KY people laughed at us for
hiring Yates.
Last year, yall faculty senators did not print the full comments on the
web for this survey. Make sure yall print every single comment on
Yates NOT a summary. If Yates goes somewhere, sit down, SHUT
UP, and out of the way, maybe Hicks could fix the college. Let Dr.
Wright do his job to clean up the university!

It does not seem the best of climate when a well qualified and
performing faculty is promoted only one step (Assistant to Associate
Professor) over 27 years of his conscientious and hard-working life.
Compound this with the kind of salary inversion that some of us have
experienced, you know it is not satisfactory.
This is not an attempt to fault anyone in particular or the system at
large, for when you get at close contact with almost everyone (from
the president to the janitors) they seem to be magnificent and
thoughtful people.
Something however, just does not seem right

I believe that there is very little support from the University
Administration for faculty members and their workloads. The very
cavalier attitude that they take toward faculty - "Just do more with
less" - does not accommodate the established mission and goals of
the University, nor the expectations of an institution "of the first
class" The expectation of attracting quality students to graduate
programs without ANY sort of funding, undermines the mission
toward quality research and renders recruiting efforts ineffective at
best; it doesn't provide students the type of experiences and
opportunities that other Universities are providing their students.
When that sort of attitude comes from the top, it trickles down into all
aspects of the University and by the time it reaches students, the
message is simply "just do less" which appropriately accommodates
the large number of provisional students now present in our
classrooms at PVAMU. Additionally, the extremely non-competitive
salaries paid at PVAMU is also a detriment to quality instruction as
more and more the "just do more..." attitude coupled with "we pay
less" is impacting the morale of faculty members. Most of us are
here because we love the institution and what it has historically stood
for and we sincerely seek to help the majority population at the
University; thus, instead of allocating all the monies toward
beautifying the grounds (although I can appreciate its BEAUTY) and
the "appointment" of administrators, there needs to be funding
directed at beautifying the minds of students as well as paying faculty
members - whose work continues long after the lights are out in the
classrooms - more competitive salaries.

My department needs an Administrative Assistant as soon as
possible. This person needs to be a pleasant individual who
understands the importance of customer service not only to the
students, but to all of the faculty in the specified department. This
individual is needed AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

University College was not represented in this survey. Perhaps it's
because we do not have a voice on the faculty senate. Does this mean
we are not a part of the integral part of the University?

Until PV gets serious about bringing in top notch administrators to
run certain colleges this university will never acquire the types of
grants needed to be recognize as research institution. The hiring
process is to be questioned regarding administration.

In my case, I feel dead on the job. I am constantly harassed by
Haghighi who simply wants to be unbending in any situation. I
personally believe that this man is a henchman for J-S Thomas Smith
and Dr. James Wilson. On the other hand, he may be anti Christians,
or anti Africans, or both.
Then Dr. J-Thomas Smith, is so unfair to people who are not in her
circle of friends, that a blind person can see it. To the point that she
says that I would never make Professor as long as she is the Provost.
Dr. Haghighi discourages me from applying for promotion based on
what he knows from Dr. J-Thomas Smith. I am very unsatisfied with
this administration. My biggest mistake in life is coming to PVAMU.
I am working on suing them and the University.

This is my first year at PV. Based upon my experiences at three other
universities, I am very happy with my administrators and feel
supported and encouraged. Salary, however, is very low, and the
teaching load is very heavy and prohibits research abilities.

I am just tired. I can't keep working 60-80 hours per week, at my
laughable salary, for the next 20 years. If I leave PV, it will be
completely for quality of life reasons: sanity, family, salary.
