PROFESSIONAL OBJECTIVE:
A one to three sentence statement identifying immediate and long term (3-5 year) goals. Goals should be
realistic and beneficial to the prospective employer.
EDUCATION:
Type of degree, month and year awarded
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Stevens Point, WI
Major: STATE YOUR MAJOR(s) here (more than one? List them vertically)
Minor: STATE YOUR MINOR(s) here, assuming you have one
Cumulative grade point average: ?.?? (4.0 = A)
Graduating with honors? If so, here’s the place to say so!
SPECIAL COURSES:
This segment is optional, but provides a place for you to show an employer which classes you have that
highlight your strengths and unique assets. Most classes are adequately represented by titles alone, but
some classes benefit from a brief description designed to promote the relevance of the class to the
employer’s needs.
SPECIAL PROJECTS:
Think of this section as a place to tout academic activity that took place outside of a class. If you’ve had
an Internship, for instance, you can use this section to describe what you did to earn college credit while
working as an Intern. Some classes involve extensive projects and this is a good spot to highlight those as
well.
EXPERIENCE:
Organize your work experiences, paid or unpaid, in reverse chronological sequence (beginning with the
most recent) and work your way back to the beginning of college. Most (but not all!) employers will
accept 2 page resumes. Check with Career Services to find out what length is best for YOUR chosen
occupation!
Name of employer, City and State
Beginning and ending dates (month and year)
JOB TITLE. Describe your specific duties, responsibilities AND accomplishments. How did this
experience prepare you for the job you now seek? Be sure to address “accomplishments” by showing
what you did that exceeded the expectations of your supervisors.

SPECIAL SKILLS:
This is a great place to highlight skills you have to offer that did not appear in your “Experience”
Section.
Computer literacy, technical prowess, and personality traits are often addressed here.
BACKGROUND AND INTERESTS:
Show historical information that favors your candidacy. Extracurricular activities from College (or even
high school) can illustrate critical interests, skills, or both. Point out memberships in organizations with a
focus related to your career interests. Leadership activities, academic and performance awards,
scholarships, and letters can also reveal desirable qualities. A brief list of hobbies or special interests can
display compatibility with the employer’s community and working culture.
REFERENCES:
Obtain consent from 3-4 individuals who are comfortable with supporting your candidacy. Select
references based on their knowledge of your abilities, and try to represent individuals from both working
and learning environments.
