Calculators: You will need a basic scientific calculator for this course. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in Math 1010 (Intermediate Algebra), a score of at least 23 on the math portion of the ACT, a score of at least 540 on the SAT, or placement by the appropriate score on the math Placement Exam. All test scores expire after two years for placement purposes. Important! Math 1030 will NOT work as a prerequisite for a course that requires Math 1050 or Math 1090 as a prerequisite. Grading: The grades will be calculated as follows: Homework Quizzes 20% Project 20% Midterm 1 15% Midterm 2 15% Final 30% Total 100% Final: Friday, July 8, 2011 from 10:00 – 11:30am in LCB 219 Midterms: Wednesday, June 1, 2011 Friday, June 17, 2011 Important! There are NO alternate exams. Exam dates are fixed and will not change, make sure that you are in class to take each exam. Grading scale: A (93-­‐100), A-­ (90-­‐92), B+ (87-­‐89), B (83-­‐86), B-­ (80-­‐82), C+ (77-­‐79), C (73-­‐76), C-­ (70-­‐72), D+ (67-­‐69), D (63-­‐66), D-­ (60-­‐62), F (0-­‐59) Homework & Homework Quizzes:  Homework will be assigned for each section covered in class.  The last day of class each week we will have a short homework quiz. You will be able to use your completed homework from the week during the homework quiz. NO books will be allowed. You MUST show your work, NO credit will be given on any quiz for answers without supporting work.  NO make-­‐up quizzes will be given. I will drop 2 quiz scores. Policies:  Make sure that the written work you turn in is organized and legible. I will only grade work that I can read.  When you come to class plan to be in class (turn your phone to “silent” mode, keep your computer in your bag, save visiting with your neighbor/friend till after class, …). If you are in class I will expect respectful behavior. I will take action to terminate disruptive behavior.  If your have questions about any midterm or quiz grade, you must bring it to me within two weeks of the midterm or quiz. After that, you will have to live with whatever grade you got.  I may send information to the class via the campus information system. You will be responsible for this information. It is in your best interest to make sure your email address it up-­‐to-­‐date.  If you have crisis-­‐level extenuating circumstances, which require flexibility, it is 100% your responsibility to communicate with me as soon as possible. The longer you wait to communicate with me, the less I can and am willing to do to help.  Please make sure you do your best throughout the semester. Come talk to me if you need further study strategies. No extra credit will be given. Do not ask me to make special arrangements for you to improve your grade at the end of the semester. If you ask me toward the end of the semester if I’ll make special arrangements for you to improve your grade by some means, I will automatically deduct one percentage point from your overall grade, just for asking the question!!
