CATALOG LANGUAGE Attach the current or proposed catalog language with any changes clearly identified. V/. JUSTIFICATION We
continue to see a strong demand for Information Technology professionals in local, regional, and
national workforce. Our program advisory committee recently affirmed the need for individuals educated in
networking technologies and system administration in the Western Montana region.
The prevalence of information system security breaches continues to occur at alarmingly high rates. As
these
attacks are publicized, it is critical to identify academic programs of study focused on securing
information technologies.
Therefore our first request is to rename the Network Management option of the Information Technology
degree
to Network Administration and Security: (1) to more accurately portray the curriculum of the
program and its emphasis on security topics, and (2) as update in terminology reflective of job descriptions
commonly
identified with the program's educational outcomes. This option name has existed for nearly 20
years. It has never been updated or revised.
Our second request to revise the program requirements to include a "Security Elective" in place of ITS 255
Telephony. The outcomes of ITS 255 have been absorbed into other courses of the program of study.
IP
Students must choose one course from the list: ITS 271, ITS 273, ITS 275, or ITS 277 The security
elective
is responsive to the heightened demand for cybersecurity education.
