gain admission to Teacher Education Program and meet
all the requirements for teaching licensure (see
the College of Education and Human Sciences section of
this

The demand in Montana high schools for teaching of
courses in this field is limited. Students should complete
the required second endorsement (major or minor) in a
field other than Economics, Geography, Psychology or

Please explain/justify the new proposal or change. 
We are removing the two two-credit requirements focused on drama and dance training at the elementaryeducation level (DANC 346 and THTR 339) since students pursuing this degree will be teaching at the
secondary-education level.
We are adding THTR 206 to the requirements in order to provide students with varied production
experiences—each course (THTR 106A and THTR 206) represents the chance to work on a specific show
within the School of Theatre & Dance’s season. Adding a second backstage requirement will allow
students to experience multiple types of production in multiple venues. We are also updating those two
courses to reflect a current course proposal to increase the number of credits available.
We are also adding a third semester of studio acting training (THTR 320) to bolster students’
comprehension and techniques and to provide them with greater exposure to the types of theatre they will
most likely be teaching.
We are adding a stage-management practicum credit that will allow students to apply concepts learned in
THTR 370: Stage Management I as an assistant stage manager or stage manager for a School of Theatre
& Dance mainstage production.
V Copies and Electronic Submission
Once approved, the original, a paper copy and an electronic file are submitted to the Faculty Senate
Office, UH 221 (camie.foos@mso.umt.edu).
VI Department Summary Required if several proposals are submitted. In a separate document
list program title and proposed change of all proposals.
