ASCRC HHP Departmental Summary –2012-2013 I Course Changes Course #/Title UG HHP 488: Program Planning in Community Health PROPOSED CHANGE Justification Change course number to 441 and co-convene the course with HHP 541 HHP 541- Program Development in the Health Professions Change the title of the course to Program Planning in Community Health to more accurately reflect the course content and align the title with the proposed coconvened 400 level course. Currently, Program Planning courses in the Community Health option in HHP are taught at the undergraduate (HHP 488) & graduate levels (HHP 541). Foundational program planning content is overlapped in both, thus the impetus for a coconvened class. The graduate class currently has and will continue to include more in-depth research, supplemental readings and information as well as more comprehensive projects and exams. II Program Changes HHP Exercise Science Applied Option The current degree option in Exercise Science Applied requires up to 125 credits to complete. In order to align with The University of Montana policy we are proposing a program that will require 119 credits. The proposed changes reduce the total number of required credits by 6. The number of out-of-department elective credits will be reduced from 9 to 6; the number of required credits in business will be reduced from 6 to 3; and 1 credit of internship will be added. We needed to reduce the required curriculum (general education + HHP requirements) by 5 credits from 125 to 120 to be in alignment with The University of Montana policy. Community Health Option Instead of requiring 9-12 credits of in-department electives and 912 credits of out-of-department electives, students will be able to choose 18 to 24 credits of in or out-of department credits with their advisors approval and based on their areas of interest. There are limited elective course choices in the HHP department for students in the Community Health option. The opportunity to choose from a broad range of out-of-department courses will allow students to take courses that are more in-line with their interest in community health. Graduate Program in HHP Exercise Science Option Community Health Option Generalist Option Addition of a written comprehensive exam alternative to the existing thesis and professional paper alternatives in each of the HHP graduate program options. The comprehensive exam alternative provides students with options that more closely meet their occupational goals. By adding a written comprehensive exam for these students we ensure continued rigor and quality of graduates in the HHP program, and offer a more flexible curriculum to meet the needs of the growing field of practitioners.
