Level I Program Form I Summary of Proposed Changes Department/program Division of Biological Sciences/Integrative Microbiology and Biochemistry Summary The Integrative Microbiology and Biochemistry program within the Division of Biological Sciences (DBS) proposes to change its name to Cellular, Molecular and Microbial Biology to better reflect the composition and mission of the faculty and the programs it administers. It should also eliminate confusion with the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UM. There should be no confusion/competition between the new name and programs at Montana State University (MSU) as related faculty research, graduate programs and course offerings are spread over two departments at MSU (Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience, Department of Microbiology). II Endorsements and Approvals Please obtain the Program Chair/Director’s approval, the Dean and the Associate Provost. Requestor: Willard O. This is simply a name change to the program. The program goals , etc. remain unchanged. Please explain/justify the new proposal or change. The Integrative Microbiology and Biochemistry (IMB) program within the Division of Biological Sciences (DBS) proposes to change its name to Cellular, Molecular and Microbial Biology. This change is a more accurate reflection of the mission of the program which provides graduate degree emphases in Cellular & Developmental Biology, Microbial Evolution &Ecology, Microbiology & Immunology and Molecular Biology. Faculty also participate in various undergraduate degree options including Cellular & Molecular Biology, Human Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Microbial Ecology and Medical Technology. This name change should also eliminate any confusion with the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (DCB) at UM where the Biochemistry program is a joint effort between DCB and DBS. There should be no confusion/competition between the new name and programs at Montana State University (MSU) as related faculty research, graduate programs and course offerings are spread over two departments: the Department of Cell Biology & Neuroscience and the Department of Microbiology. In summary, this name change will be a more accurate title than IMB, it will eliminate confusion on our own campus and it does not compete with similar programs at MSU. What other programs are affected by your No programs affected. This is a name proposal? Obtain signatures as requested below. change only and program offerings remain the same.
